There are two problems with that chart. Firstly, and most importantly, it is comparing last season''s wages (which are the most recent available) with this season''s league position. Secondly, it is in terms of points already out of date.

There is a very close correlation between the relative wage position of each club each season so using last years wages is still a very good measure. Only Mac C and Chelsea swapped wages positions in the previous 2 seasons

In that case, T, if I was going to make a cheap debating point I would point out that we should finish around 16th place. More than that, since you say Hughton has this season "significantly outperformed" in the 20 or 25 per cent of management not governed by finance, we should end up  around, say, 13th. But I won''t make that cheap debating point, because I am not convinced we are the 16th highest wage payers this season. Which is why I cautioned against a dogmatic reading of that chart.
