Wolfswinkel reveals Norwich City's transfer plans

Recommended Posts

Van Wolfswinkel refers to Norwich as ambitious several times and Voetbal ask him to explain how he knows they will move forward, he says that''s because he''s been informed that other players are coming in.

"The intention is that the club in the coming months will also capture an attacking midfielder and two wide players.

I recently went to see things for three days in Norwich and the conversations I had with the manager and what the technical director claimed were decisive."

Very positive atmosphere around the club at the moment - if we beat Wigan morale will be sky high

Oh, didn''t realise the html codes aren''t necessary. Whoops!

The "attacking midfielder" could well be Marco Van Ginkel?

I think you''ve missed the real story, how did he manage to spend three days here and not be spotted at Colney/ASDA/Morrisons/Dunston Hall/Carrow Rd by someone who has a connection/brother/uncle/sister-in-law who knows what going on. At least someone should''ve seen McNally escorting a man with a balaclava on.

Would possibly suggest we''ll get in one right, and one left winger. We need another left winger so desperately, but it does hint that Hughton perhaps doesn''t rate Benno.

Definitely need a CAM to challenge Hoolahoop though. Can see Hughton''s team really coming together this summer

Its progression why we''re getting new players in,  Beno is still raw while Pilkington has obvious improved immensely and it could easily be Surman being the one whom is getting replaced.

Think it goes to show that most of the people on here who have an ounce of intelligence were correct all along, Hughton is fully concentrating on improving our attacking side of the game for next season after making us a tough outfit to beat this season.

Doubt there will be any apologies from the egg on the face crew though

I was surprised to read that we are hoping to sign two wide men. Are we looking for someone quicker than Snoddy, more consistent than Pilks, more confident than Bennett, i.e. two out and out wingers. Such figures can be effective, but these days will need to do some defending. Perhaps what was meant was two wide midfielders, rather than two (out and out) wingers.

Would Rafael or Leighton Baines, or even Ashley Cole, Johnson and Walker count as wide men? Could the wide men be wing-backs. I think that we need some pace on each side, to get and down the line quickly, but also be able to keep up with opposing attacking wide men. Garrido is short of pace, and Martin and Whittaker, so they tend to back off and concede space, which can be dangerous.

The man said, "We live in interesting times!". Perhaps he should have said "exciting times", as far as NCFC is concerned.

"He''s clearly irritated with people questioning his sanity".

Indeed PC. He must be mad to come here and probably play the majority of games rather than try and get a bigger club and park his rear on the subs'' bench for half a season.

CH is clearly going for two decent players for each position in his squad build, the best available making the team and those with maybe more than one string to their bow (Whittaker for example) the bench. Pilks had had injury problems this season and Snoddy will burn himself out the rate he plays at so some rotation next season will be beneficial for all. Howson, Tettey and Johnson can breathe easy whilst Hoolahan will be looking nervously over his shoulder. I wonder where this leaves the likes of Butterfield, E. Bennett, etc.?

Personally I would eventually also like another confident CB, and to sort out the LB position. Garrido has been good in general but has had his off days, he loses the ball an awful lot, and can''t seem to be able to clear it very effectually. And we don''t really have an alternative in Tierney.

For me, Surman hasn''t proven himself to be a Premier League player and it would be better for his career to be playing regular football in Championship, I would gather that the two new wingers would mean the end of him at Norwich.

The club is very well run and I have great confidence in whoever is brought in - the facts are that at the end of last season it was obvious we needed to sort out the defence, and we definitely have done that. Then, in January, we needed to sort out the attack, and so brought in Kamara, Becchio and now RvW. A real sign of intent. Things are only looking up from here.

Would personally like Sako from Wolves.mlooks class above all their other players. Power and pace. Wouldn''t break the bank either.

"Never mind all that gossip, who is our ''Technical Director''?"

Well crabby on recent form and his thread responses for the negative nelly''s, it has to be City1st!

He has been telling us just how the club is looking upwards not downwards and has been proven right by RVW! so I hope City1st has more good news soon.

2 Wingers and an Attacking Midfielder seems surprising. I would have thought we''d be looking for a Fox replacement, then another striker. Unless Hughton''s going to play a continental style 4-5-1 all the time

Hardly surprising imo.   This has been the problem area all season.   The midfield lacking the capability to sustain a good quality, consistent and cohesive support for the strikers.

midfield as a unit has been a problem all season.giving the ball away, inability to get it back, lack of cohesion... Its good this area has been identified.the problems with the battering we took at Fulham and Liverpool is because the midfield couldnt defend or hold their shape. New faces will ensure better control of this area.

Definitely need cover for Johnson and Tettey, I think its a step too far for Adeyemi at the mo, Fox isn''t high enough standard and its not Howson''s position. We also need another CB - we don''t have enough depth in our squad in those areas.

Domt know why people are assuming this means we will only sign 2 wingers and a amc. Reason these would have been highlighted to RVW is because he was probably worried about supply and the amount of chances we create. No doubt Hughton has promised to address this to him. There is no way he would run through every position he was going to sign a player in to RVW. Just making him aware that he would get the supply he needs.

Glad that some fans are agreeing that eb and pilky have not done enough this year. Upgrading each position is key rvw is a massive improvement on our strikers and hence we need to improve our wide players and an attacking midfielder.

So I certainly hope we can get exciting players who can give us the hux effect out wide. We have not had a great group of wingers for many years and to bring that in will be just what we need at carrow road. We want a player to pick up the ball and have the excitement bring us out of our seats.

Yes left back and other positions are needed but I agree more players would come in as a number of players will leave. These positions in our midfield are very much needed to take us to the next level.

Can''t wait.

Or not?

City’s newest recruit was quoted in the Dutch media earlier this week referring to Hughton’s potential summer recruitment policy, but the Norwich boss opted yesterday to place van Wolfswinkel’s comments in context.

“I did hear the reports and they are certainly not accurate,” said Hughton, after the Dutchman reportedly suggested the Canaries were also in the market for two wide players and an attacking midfielder.

"Of course we will very much look to improve the squad. It is probably quite obvious the area we haven’t done as well as we would like this season and that is the ability to score goals and win matches.

"It isn’t rocket science they are key areas we would be looking at. Ricky is an indication of what we wanted to bring in – a forward with a very good goalscoring record. Certainly no specific individuals were spoken about or positions.”

I was wondering when someone would notice what CH has said about this, so well done Purple. Given that he usually plays wide players on the opposite side, I don''t think orthodox wingers are what CH has in mind. Van Ginkel can play in the hole or out wide on either flank, so his signing would strengthen all three positions. City would still need a DM, a CB, Garrido and another LB before any further strengthening up front. That is what I think will happen anyway.
