Calderwood and Trollope

Recommended Posts

What do these 2 do?  I know Lambert had right hand men in Culverhouse and Karsa, but these 2 led training while Lambert did all the other duties required of him.  As far as I''m aware, Hughton conducts training sessions, so I can''t see what worth these 2 bring.  And when you look at their previous coaching records, not exactly pulling up trees.

Are these 2 the problem and not Hughton?  Does he need them?

One of the reasons that Chris Hughton and his sidekicks were brought in, was to to improve the defence. We have also brought in one of the best goalkeeping coaches, Dave Watson. Do we actually have a specialist coach to improve our strikers ?

Sad thing is i think Hughton would make a brilliant assistant manager. He wouldnt then be making the interviews with the negative comments about how much better the opposition is than us, he wouldnt make subsitution or mid game tatically changes but we''d still get the defenive coaching that he obviously excells at and he''d still might have some influence on the manager regarding transfer policy which so far seems to have also been good.

As for Calderwood and Trollope, we just dont know how much or little they offer behind the scenes. I somehow doubt they are the problem though even if they arnt bringing much different to the table.

Oh give it a rest with the negative comments in interviews rubbish. Every manager including Sir Alex compliments the other teams, Paul Lambert was far worse than Hughton for doing this. Actually despair reading some of the tripe you lot come up with

["flying high up in the sky!"]The problem? What problem? We are sitting 13th in the league and had a good attacking game yesterday against a good side ending in a fair draw. Don''t see a problem.

Spot on!

I don''tlike the style of football and we have to improve our attack but Hughton knows this better than us!

The whole club is a Premiership work in progress. I''m afraid the forward momentum of the last 3 season was going to end somewhere and it has this season. This seasons all about maintaining Premiership status and stability. -We''re nearly there!

Karsa''s main job was to study endless videos of the forthcoming opposition and to pepare a detailed dossier on strengths and weaknesses so that PL could set up his team accordingly.

I posted on a different thread a few days ago the fact that Hughton and Calderwood were out and out defenders in their playing days. Most coaches end up managing with the same mindset in which they played. I suspect that''s why we haven''t seen the likes of Pilks and Benno flourish this year. Fox will never get a game under this regime because Hughton sees the two central midfielders as extra defenders and the creativity that Fox provides is the last thing he wants.

I''d promote Neil Adams into the coaching team. He''s shown what he can do with the youngsters and wasn''t a bad winger in his time here as a player.

I thought the appointment of Hughton was a good move and I do feel that our defence is so much better, but is has come at a cost and i do accept that. I, like everyone else hope that we get over the line, but is he capable of moving us onto the next stage? I know that we will strengthen the attack/midfield but at what cost. The defence is so good because we have 2 defensive midfielders who do a great job of breaking up the play , but are not great in the creative department. If we sacrifice one of these for a playmaker, there must be a knock on effect. Premier teams are adapting a different type of football and having watched Southampton, it seems to be working. It does not matter who we buy, we must have a system to break down defences and that cannot be done at a pedestrian pace. I hope that Hughton has a plan for the incoming players and a change of style, because if the idea is just to keep slogging away, at some stage it will not work and that is what is happening to Stoke. I accept that just because everyone else is doing it does not make it right, but on the other hand it does not mean it is wrong and deserves consideration

I presume that all managers like to have assistants, whom they can consult, and also bounce ideas against. Some of the assistants probably do little else, and are surprising, whereas others have considerable input (- Culverhouse with Lambert.) Over time if they prove their worth, they becaome a team and go from clubt to club when the manager moves. The assistans owe the manager their position, and may be reluctant to argue against what the manager says. Certainly, we seldom seem to hear of a manager dispensing with the services of  his side-kick.

Quite what Calderwood and Trollope contribute only CH could explain, and I doubt if he will ever do so. I would only make the comment that colledtively they seem to lack imagination and creativity, and find it difficult to depart from their first ideas and perceptions. There seems to be an inflexibility in the Case of the Norwich trio.

Football is full of people who have been unsuccessful as managers, but are highly regarded as coaches. Peter Grant springs to mind. It is no good reason to have a ''pop'' at them. Never mind that the judgement of them as ''failures'' is not the right of anyone on here.

I was then going to make the same point. Bryan Kidd, David Platt, Peter Taylor (Cloughie''s assistant), Colin Harvey, Liam Brady are excellent coaches who never made it as a manager.
