Holt & Becchio

Recommended Posts

True, but they both have a terrible touch and can''t seem to pass a simple ball

Ha ha ha fair play Holty, I love the guy but I still stand by my original point, one goal doesn''t make him a better player

Becchio played very well today, you have to give him a chance to get used to the quality of football he is up against. Him and Holt should hopefully form a good partnership together (although I''m sure Kamara will have something to say about that)

In the air Becchio was good, but his touch and passing was very disappointing.

Please..lets give him a little time. For first start that was a decent performance, worked hard, good movement, found a fair bit of space........it will happen have some faith.......

Becchio looked a lost soul to me & those around me said the same at half-time. Granted, he needs to get used to the pace and lack of space in the Prem, but he''s a bit lightweight with intent. Example; ball in the air & he eyes the keeper to see whether he might get hurt. Result: keeper collects safely & Lucy gets nudged out of the way. Comparision; Holt''s away goal at Liverpool when he focussed on nothing other than the ball to make the connection and smash it home.

If the Argentine can''t show some bravery he''ll be a squad player at best.

I though Becchio was OK. He won his fair share of headers and his movement was generally good, decent runs into wider areas and behind the defence. Some of his runs were a bit too similar to Holt''s which I kind''ve expected, as the two had never been a front pairing before and it will take a while for them to feel at ease with each other and make runs that counter-act each other. Obviously at times his touch looked a little poor and he seemed to struggle with how quickly Everton closed him down, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt as it''s only his second game.
I certainly wouldn''t be writing him of this early.

I agree with Norfolk Mustard. I was saying when Holt made that great cross and Howard grabbed it as Becchio passed on attacking it that it was a shame Holt couldn''t make crosses like that to himself.

As for the OP correcting himself, you also misspelled "them".

Purely based on their respective performances before Becchio was subbed, I would say Becchio had the slightly better game of the two. Not saying Holt was bad at all btw.

A totally new system, and it will take time for that to improve, and also for Becchio to get up to Prem speed.

Without the intervention of Kamara yesterday we''d of almost certainly lost the game!

Still early days for Becchio but its obvious hes not fast and I think hes a penalty box striker who''ll score goals if we put the ball in the box more!

Holt has suffered this season from Hughtons less adventurous style of play but we''re still better with him in the team and yesterdays goal is typical of him. Like Becchio hes at his most dangerous when the balls bouncing around in the penalty box.

If we stay up we''ll need more and better options upfront then we have at present but Holt and Becchio will have a part to play!
