Shirt collection.

Recommended Posts

Any more news on this Pete, I have bagged up about 15, and I have a signed 2004 Norwich ball, which was a Birthday gift to me from my granchildren, Think the kids over there will make more use of it than I ever will. By the way I''m not talk to myself.

Whilst I think what you are doing is highly commendable, can I just ask if you are filtering the collection of shirts first?

I am a collector of sponsored Norwich shirts, going back to the first Poll Withey sponsered shirt. I have almost every home and away shirt since, and its cost me a lot of money. The fosters shirt for example was just about £140 - 3 years ago. I have some missing that for the life of me I cannot find.

Now whilst I think its great you are sending these shirts out to Sierra Leone, I trust you have taken the collectable ones out? These are beoming very rare to come by and the thought of them being sent to Sierra Leonne to be worn, and not cased and displayed is worrying me slightly.

For example, the signed ball in the OP, surely this would be better off displayed and a non-signed ball be sent?

I''d be happy to donate more current "up-to-date" shirts, and give money, to people with rare shirts. This way, kids in Sierra Leonne still get a kit, we keep the rare collectable items in the UK, and the original owner of the shirt can get some money aswell as the feel good factor of spreading the NCFC word around the world to people who perhaps otherwise couldn''t enjoy these luxuries...

I hope this doesn''t come accross as looking like an attempt to make money, as its not. Just an avid collector that is worrying that shirts I''ve spent decades looking for are getting sent to be goal posts somewhere...

Point Taken, non of these shirts I''m sending have any great collector value, I selected them from my hoard  of around 60, I also have a 1905 shirt which is going nowhere, as regards to the ball , Are you offering to buy it? if you are I would be more than willing to let you have it and donate the procedes to the collection or buy,as you say some other ball for them

Sounds like you''ve got a good collection there!

If i''m completely honest, I''m like yourself, I wouldn''t know what to do with the ball so wouldn''t want to buy it myself. I only really collect the shirts. However, I would be more than willing to donate an unsigned ball from the club shop for you to send in its place so you can keep it! Or, I do use eBay so could happily pop it on there and donate all the proceeds to the fund if you really want to find it a home.

I think by doing this, selling/raffling the collectable items and replacing them with standard bits, not only could we donate loads of NCFC gear, but also a nice pot of cash and make some very happy collectors!

Kudos to Pete first of all,But I tend to agree with Vazza,Im guessing a ball sent over to Sierra Lione would be played with, where as it could actually be treasured by some NCFC fan. For the money it raised in a online auction you could probably send 5+ footballs over.Same with the shirts, a rare NCFC shirt is worth more to collectors/NCFC Fans and the money made could go into getting a couple of full 5-a-side kits for the kids which would be more appriciated by them than 1 1985 Asics shirt from who, Norwich? Who are they?

I take in what is said and would be prepared to put the ball on auction and do what has been said with the raised money, adding to that I have a program that has more sentimentle value to me as it played 5 days after my 17th birthday, I was a young Squaddie stationed at Bury st Edmunds, I had been selected to go forward to go on to Parachute training,  the match was Terry Allcock''s testimonial match  V the binners 30/04/1969. I think I had a good time as I don''t remember much as being P####d for most of that week, Afew of us went from the Barracks and we stood behind the goal. as I say its more sentimentle than anything else but would sell it for the kids over there.

I also have a young family in Mombasa Kenya who I have sort of adopted we pay for the schooling of all the family kids,  and send funds to other school kids, But Sierre Lione is in much more need of help, And I personally would like to extend the collection to other things like school books and other items of clothing

I don''t want anyone to feel I''m trying to steal the show here . I''ve joined this late and wouldn''t want to throw a spanner in the works. There is some amazing work being done, some real genuine nice people looking to help. Doesn''t seem to be enbough people like this around nowadays.

So, if there is anything I can do to help (other than donating my collection [:P]) then I''m willing. I''d be more than happy to help co-ordinate the selling of collectables (for no profit) and then let people decide what they wanted to do with the money, or just step back and mind my own business!

But as a side note. If anyone is thinking of donating their shirts to this great cause, and would be willing to let me know what you are donating. I''ll be more than happy to pay good money for the shirts I need, as well as donate another NCFC shirt in its place. Its then up to you if you pocket the money, or decide to donate some or all to this great cause!

Cheers!

Agreed! You need to keep hold of the memories. Maybe its because I have such a bad memory I have to keep things like that for a reminder. it sounds like you are already doing a lot, you''ve got to keep some of the little tokens you collect throughout life. I''ve got a garage full!

I have to admit, also not wanting to sound cold hearted, that I value my shirt collection of any sort far too highly as ive been collecting a long time...but much like other posters here would love to contribute to the cause in some way. Pete, why dont you set up a way of ''giving'' i.e donation page?

Im sure the kids would much prefer up to date stuff anyway, so we could raise a load of money together buy loads of cheap shirts off the club (there little way of getting involved with the fans and support) and we could then send kit and other stuff such as balls and equipment after the season has ended as the items are effectively ''out of date''?

Can anyone explain what the deal is with this?

I am in the process of moving house and was looking to donate my old shirts (all are modern and not sought after) to one of the kits for Africa charities.

I''d much rather see them sent to a cause amongst other City shirts.

Hi Pete

For the more valuable / signed stuff ect you need a local specialist auction therefore attracting local people interested in the club and also attracting a large number of people via the correct publicity. I am sure one of the main local auctioneers would run it cheaper than normal purely for the local publicity. These auctions also go online so if there is more rare stuff or England stuff it will attract proper collectors. If you suddenly swamp ebay with this stuff it will go for next to nothing.

The stuff is also very expensive to send and distribute so talking to the right people and possibly sponsors is very important. I know AVIVA read these message boards so come on guys give Pete a hand. Maybe 5 of you could do the crossbar challenge as a sponsored event to raise money for this cause ?????

I would say this is a good time of year to buy kit as vastly reduced with new shirt coming soon, however did the club not do something last year of their own back where they send all the kit to a certain company ? not sure if I am correct but this could be why the club not coming back quick.

Hope you find that helpful as not meaning to interfere. Keep up the good work.
