Bws Cat 0 Posted December 19, 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20748070Despite a fairly average, nearly bottom of MOTD match, Crook''s manages to put Pilkington in his TOTW.Does he compensate for Lawro? Since our unbeaten run began I''m pretty sure one or two Norwich players have been in his team, and have been heaped with praise.Good to see.
ZLF 334 Posted December 19, 2012 he does regularly praise us, with player from GK to attack in the TOTW - I am sure it all dates back to his however he does underline a little it by including professional wrestler Shawcross who was not even the best defender in that match! ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) 26 Posted December 19, 2012 From what I''ve seen of Garth Crooks this season, he has been consistently positive towards Norwich - not a "Johnny come lately" who''s riding on the bandwagon. He was also getting quite charged up on Saturday (Final Score) regarding the lack of respect that Chris Hughton was getting for his achievements this season. I rate him alongside Gary Neville as one of the better breed of pundits that, will hopefully, replace many of the "big club" droolers!
Bethnal Yellow and Green 2,424 Posted December 19, 2012 Garth Crooks who is close personal freinds with Chris Hughton being nice about Norwich! What a shock. If people are going to criticise some pundits for being impartial against Norwich then they should also be criticised for being impartial in favour of Norwich. TCCANARY 263 Posted December 19, 2012 From yesterdays Football365;Hats off to Garth Crooks, who picked Hugo Lloris in his team of the week for The BBC Website.Shots on target for Swansea against Spurs: None.Spurs are considered to be a ''big club''.
a1canary 0 Posted December 19, 2012 It''s good to see some positive support for us and i''ve said it''d be good to have him on MoTD just for some balance in our favour but i actually don''t rate him as a pundit any more than Shearer or Hansen. He''s just better because he doesn''t brown nose the big clubs and he''s not as completely awful as the rest. Lee Dixon could have saved BBC football punditry but now he''s lounging on a sofa with the squashed faced brummie over at itv, the beeb''s coverage is dying a slow and painful death. ABC (A Basingstoke Canary) 26 Posted December 19, 2012
Garth Crooks who is close personal freinds with Chris Hughton being nice about Norwich! What a shock. If people are going to criticise some pundits for being impartial against Norwich then they should also be criticised for being impartial in favour of Norwich.
I''m sure that Garth Crooks is a close personal friend with many people - doesn''t mean that he "blindly" extolls their virtues to all and sundry! I would welcome a bit of impartiality from the pundits - unfortunately we don''t get that. Most of the "established" punditry seem to be very partial to swooning over the the very well foreign funded "top" clubs! From my perspective, it''s not about Garth Crooks "being nice" about Norwich, but more about providing a realistic analysis. In the same way as I''m sure that Gary Neville has many personal friends at Man Utd - doesn''t mean he is going to "be nice" if Utd fall short of what is expected of them
Philipo87 0 Posted December 19, 2012 I have said it a few weeks in a row now. He looks at who scored at the weekend and then puts them in the team of the week. When he runs out of goal scorers he generally just puts the other big name players in or the ones in the headlines. Our players have been getting in the team now purely because they have scored a few goals in recent weeks from midfield.Lloris even managed to get in the team of the week despite not saving a single shot! He clearly looked at which teams kept clean sheets (Spurs, West Ham and West Brom) and picked the big name from the three.Dont believe me, then look back at the other teams of the week. Usually 9 out of the 11 have scored at the weekend.
canarydan23 4,749 Posted December 19, 2012 "If people are going to criticise some pundits for being impartial against Norwich then they should also be criticised for being impartial in favour of Norwich."Yes Bethnal, that is exactly how it works. A Norwich fan will log in to a Norwich message board to complain that a pundit is being unfairly nice to Norwich.Meanwhile, in the real world...
BroadstairsR 2,273 Posted December 19, 2012 Garth is a bit of a dick, but I love him to bits. Great player too.
Europe_93 50 Posted December 19, 2012 He made me laugh on the final day of last season, along with Savage and Keown, they transfixed by the game at the Etihad, pretty much blanking Gabby Logan (Yorath). Quite funny, the only thing he didn''t do was the Poznan :-)
