Lambert's scruffy appearance

Recommended Posts

Now that PL has received his ''bonus'' maybe he can afford some razor blades.Manager leads by example both in his behaviour + appearance (ref Chris Hughton) and I thought Lambert was better than that!

I think i will now have a shower and a shave and head off for the pub if this drivel is the best that people can attempt to discuss on Christmas Eve.[:(]

Thought the same, but then Mourinho sometimes doesn''t shave and he does ok. Well not this season so much but he is pretty special.

After seeing Lambert at Villa I have my doubts as to whether he will break into that top bracket of special managers. Maybe be someone who manages a few clubs of similar level - like O''Neil has done.

Yep, the link between the manager''s facial hair and the players'' performance is a well established one. Villa fans should just be thankful he wasn''t sporting a handlebar moustache, it would have been double figures!

Seriously though I was surprised by Lambert''s appearance yesterday. He does not look well. Puffy faced, blotchy skin as well as unkempt.

He looks like a man under extreme stress who is struggling. That is what he is of course but the trick of good leadership is never to show that you are under the cosh.

With the sartorial care of Paul Jewell and the facial approach of Roy Keane, this is not the man we knew and loved.

At a personal level I was quite worried about him.

Whilst never the most exhuberant of persons, I had thought thought that PL has looked a bit downbeat recently. I never really noticed his appearance last time, but will clock it tomorrow.

As a manager he has always more or less been able to call the tune, but this time he has taken on a pressure job at a club where there are much higher expectations than at any place he has managed before.

Perhaps he''s feeling the  strain as he has not exactly set the woods on fire there (no trees in Aston though)  and some of the natives are already getting impatient.

He is a man under pressure. For what it is worth I think Villa will survive this season. However the bald statistics are that this is one of their worst starts to a season ever and last Sunday against Chelsea represented their heaviest defeat of all time. For all the improvement and positive results of the last couple weeks they still find themselves 3 points above the trapdoor.

He deserves time to sort out the mess he has inherited form Alex McLeish and Martin O''Neill. He is doing the right thing by injecting a core of young and hungry players into the squad. This represents his best chance of trimming the budget but maintaining good quality in the squad. He has signed some cracking players such as Westwood and Benteke.

He is still an excellent manager and given a decent amount of time I think he will turn Aston Villa around. However Aston Villa fans will be sceptical about this approach in the transfer market particularly with the early results. He doesn''t have the credit of 2 promotions in the bank like he did with us.

I''m not basing this on his appearance, as a bit of stubble means absolutely naff all if we''re honest.

However, just generally from his demeanor in interviews and the like, I think the degree of how much of an uphill battle he has got is hitting him. Everyone knew the squad wasn''t great, but every week I look at their line up and there are four or five players you would hardly have heard of before the start of this season.

However, he will turn them around and make them come good. We forget that when we got relegated to League 1, we still had some decent players around for that level. Villa simply haven''t; he can''t work miracles there in half a season like he could here. If they stick by him, he will make them come good. It''s just whether he can keep them up this season in order to be given the time to do so.
