PKC 0 Posted November 19, 2012 Am I the only one who thinks that today''s EDP with all the talk of a giant killing is being a bit disrespectful? I am nor trying to say it was an expected result but we are in the same leage as them so it hardly equates to beating them in the 3rd round of the FA cup in 59. Sooty57 414 Posted November 19, 2012 I get your point; it does tend to reinforce the "little old Norwich" tag. While it can''t be argued that Man U are not giants, we are hardly minnows. The perception from those outside the area is that we are a bunch of carrot crunching turkey breeders. That just makes beating "bigger" teams all the sweeter for us, and more painful for the misinformed opposition fans who come here expecting an easy 3 points. As for the local rag - don''t worry about it. You''ll only be wrapping tomorrow''s vegetable peelings in it.
nutty nigel 7,902 Posted November 19, 2012 At least the criticism is being going to the right place now. Less than 2 months ago "little old Norwich" was down to Hughton. I haven''t seen a change in Hughton''s style but his critics seem to have disappeared...

Bill 1,788 Posted November 19, 2012 Neither ArseNil, Spurs or Man Utd were any better on the day, so although individually it was great result, taken in the context of the previous few games it wasn''t any great event football wise A great event for fans maybe, many who have to suffer the red shirted glory hunters in their own part of the county and will have a few days of fun this week which makes the real point of being in the top flight all that more enjoyable That point being to compete with all the other 19 clubs - not merely hoping to hang on grimly to 17th spot whilst wringing our cloth caps and being ever so ''umble

shefcanary 2,950 Posted November 19, 2012 This thread on the front page and the other thread about Archant talking the club down should be read together. To my mind they are peddling "lil ole Narridge" propaganda, which is incredibly unfair on the team. I think they are now beginning to hold their own amongst the big boys - show some improvement against ManCini and that would underpin this. I''d hate to think what EDP view of us getting to Wembley in League Cup might be. Given the media''s view of us generally anyway then you''d expect the local press to big us up more. As others have said we are in the same league as ManUre anyway, so a home win against them should still be achievable. I hope the players don''t read too much into such trash. But maybe this underdog tag is what Hughton wants?
lake district canary 0 Posted November 19, 2012 No no and thrice NO! Giant killing? What is going on? We are in the premier league because we deserve to be. Enjoy the good wins by all means, but giant killing? For pete''s sake. Maybe some of you can''t remember when we used to beat the top sides on a regular basis and compete in the top half of the table back in the late 80''s early 90''s. At this stage we are not where we were then, but perpetuating the myth that these "super clubs" are not there to be gawped at - but to be competed with and beaten at every opportunity. The media has it''s own agenda in keeping these myths going - and it is added to by the statisticians who go use statistics to boost the myths. Thankfully, in the real world there are people who refuse to accept things as they are presented by the media - and statisticians - and look a little deeper into what makes football so special. Heart, desire, vision, competitive spirit, inspiration, character. This is what governs football - or should govern it. What got us from the bottom of League 1 to the pemiership in two seasons? The media? - who would have said no chance. Statisticians? - They would probably have said - "statistically so unlikely as to be a ridiculous idea". Well it wasn''t ridiculous and we are where we are because of the things I mention above. So don''t give me "giant killing" and all that baloney. We are a premiership club who have adjusted to a difficult time with the change of manager and emerged stronger for it. We are here on merit and there are no giants for us to beat - just other clubs in the league - some better, some worse - and we are competeing with them aqs equals. And don''t tell me we are not because such and such a club has soooo much more money than us. So what, that is just another challenge to rise to. The EDP ought to wake up and smell the coffee - and so should some fans, by the look of it...........................
Bill 1,788 Posted November 19, 2012 giant killing, my ar se ! get off you knees and stop grovellin'' maybe we should have lined up before the game and touched our forelocks as they ran out or perhaps you would have Hughton apologising to Fergie for our impertinence
Mister Chops 7 Posted November 19, 2012 It''s the "hand of Pickover".Somewhere in the small print, they probably called the Leicester City result a "giant slaying".
norfolkbroadslim 225 Posted November 19, 2012 The achievement which appears to have been overlooked here is, when have ever beaten Arsenal, Spurs & Man U (or the like) in competitive games within the space of 4 weeks?[:^)]
