Bassong racially abused on twitter

Recommended Posts

Just seen on twitter that McNally is investigating claims that an Everton fan racially abused Bass on twitter last night.

Surprised there hadn''t been more on this, especially as they accused us of racism back in 2004, which was completely false.

It is very much ,McNally''s business. If you strip away all the ''football glamour'', Bassong is one of his employees, who has been racially abused while at work. He is obliged to become involved and contact the Police.

Something has to be done for sureI ( like many ) saw the two twitter feeds posted on here yesterday and frankly its disgusting. Doubt they will go as far as docking 10 points but a hefty fine and a ban from all types of football for the two pieces of toilet bowl micro organic life that posted such filth in 2012 !

Why exactly should Everton be punished for something two stupid pathetic fans said on twitter?

Might as well get Fifa to ban England from the World cup, UEFA to ban all English clubs from European competitions.

Its not the clubs fault they have two low lives who are stupid enough to say that kind of thing on twitter. You could probably find racist people supporting nearly every club. In fact I remember a year or two ago some pundit, former Palace player starting blocking all Norwich fans (even players as well I think) because on Norwich fan said something racist to him. Its not the clubs fault, its the persons fault.

They will hopefully be banned from football for life, probably some kind of fine and/or community service. Can''t see why you would think punishing Everton would achieve anything, unless they have come out in support for the two?

I see one of the moron''s has since deleted his Twitter account, even more sad that after those disgraceful comments they aren''t man enough to stand by their words, cowards... hope the fuzz track them down, name them and shame them, fine them and stick them in prison for a few days or maybe wheel them out at our next home game a few minutes before the game starts, lets see how cocky and brass they are then with 27,000 people giving them hell.

Whatever happens there will always always be a few disturbed/ low IQ individuals who will spout this stuff in whatever way they can. We''re not going to make them go away. However, the good news is these sorts of comments now arouse almost universal outrage. It was not so long ago that such a comment uttered on the terraces or in the pub would have ruffled very few feathers. We really have moved on as a society - racism is a much smaller problem than it was in the past and as a result of this we will continue to rail against the few fools who stll peddle such drivel.

''Might as well get Fifa to ban England from the World cup, UEFA to ban all English clubs from European competitions''

What a completely unhelpful, ill advised over reaction YET again.

Why do you always do this? Why do you always feel the need to make your point by making such ridiculous comments?

Any fan making these sorts of comments represents the Everton fan base regardless on whether its just '' two stupid pathetic fans''

You can''t keep throwing your toys out of the pram like a spoilt child just coz you don''t agree with one comment...are you not capable of reasoned argument or will you continue labelling the whole of english football racist?

LOL

If these two fans represent the Everton fan base, then surely the represent the English fan base as well? Everton are an English club are they not?

And we''ve had Terry and Saurez banned for racist comments, a referee (wrongly) accused of racist comments. Liverpool fans accused of racist comments towards Adyemi. Lee Croft accused of racism, and Mark Bright getting upset at a Norwich fan on twttier a couple years ago making a racist comment. Fairly sure there have been a couple more incidents at least involving twitter.

I AM NOT labelling the whole of English football racist, I never said that. It is an overreaction to say Everton should be docked 10 points, if thats a fair response to two fans making racist comments, then surely the amount of racism (although a lot of it just accusations) going around in English football at the moment, then how is saying English teams should be banned an overreaction?

I obviously don''t think that should happen, and used it as an example because of the previous overreaction.

You are the one who has the problem here, I am giving an opinion, you are the one who is not capable of reasoned argument because you have just started insulting me. I did not label the whole of English football racist, and if Everton being docked 10 points for two racist fans on twitter is a perfectly reasonable thing to suggest, then why isn''t English teams being punished for a large amount of racist behaviour/accusations a reasonable thing to suggest? (Obviously I don''t think either are reasonable).

Once again, the increased media coverage of racism in football is not because racism is getting worse, quite the contrary. There is now a consensus that racism is intolerable and therefore when it does happen there is a strong reaction. All the more reason for avoiding collective punishments. A strong message does not need to be sent as the majority are on message. Identify the twittering twits, ban em and pour down derision on em and move on until the next moron pops up. Save bans etc for if we ever go back to a time (god forbid) when large numbers of fans are involved in racist chanting etc.

Ted Danson, I don''t think you''ve read ginger''s comment properly. He was being far from over the top. And was, quite clearly I thought, suggesting that Everton should not be docked points because of the stupidity of two of their fans. IF you were to do that, why should FIFA not punish the English FA? After all, if Everton can be to blame because of their fans, why should the English FA not be punished because fans of English teams are racially abusing foreigners?

Now, quite clearly, action from FIFA against the English FA would be ridiculous; and rather than suggesting that should be the case, Ginger was (again, quite clearly I though) using that as an example to show why Everton being docked points would be equally ridiculous.

Ban anyone who is racist, yes, maybe even fine the club if you want to try and set a precedent, but to dock them points would be outrageous for one fan being a numpty over twitter.

I think the twitter account said he was an Everton fan, NcitytilIdie. And like McNally said, it doesn''t matter what club they support (and that includes Norwich) if they racially abuse players they shouldn''t be at the games and the club will, and should, do everything it can to make sure that happens.

I''m totally with Ginger Pele on this one. It is not appropriate to impose sanctions against Everton as a club because of the behaviour of 1 or 2 of their "supporters." It is a complete overreaction, its unfair and targets the wrong people. The point he makes about England is a good one, illustrating how stupid the sanctions would be if taken to their logical extremes.

Instead you need to attack the actual issues. Which is that some people genuinely have a belief that because they type an opinion from behind a computer screen they are somehow divorced from it in real life. If police sanctions and fines start coming home to individuals. It sends a very real message that this behaviour is totally unacceptable.

Oh dear. Having said that the problem is only with very small minorities, we now have quite a large group of West Ham fans heard to be singing vile anti-Semitic songs. Now this would be a case where strong action against the club is warranted.

IMO this twitter BS and other incidents reported lately is just a reflection how pissed off people are generally due to the state of the country.  And people think ''**** it I don''t give a ****''.  The racial incidents will be reported because they''re are deemed wrong.  However general verbal abuse going on seems to be on the up too. I''m not talking just football but there seems more angry, stressed people about lately. Which comes back to twatter, where a twit can blow off without considering the consequences.  They probably know it''s wrong, but don''t care atm.

Has Mark Bright gone into meltdown over this? Has he blocked all Everton fans from following him and stopped following anyone with Everton links?

Just Asking.

We are talking here about a handful of morons who are stupid enough still to forget in a moment of rage that Twitter is a public forum.

I would suggest there are few genuine racists in football or society, the kind who would directly do harm by action; a few more who do harm by failing to do the right things (often out of fear of the perceived racism industry) such as employ people; a few more who just don''t think and a majority who simply don''t empathise.

All the racism witch-hunt is doing IMO is stopping dialogue, attitude challenging at a low level and making divisions by causing offenders to feel like victims.

We are all different, we are tribal which means we take an attitude against other groups and this happens in all societies and in all manner of formats. I am prepared to bet that when Seb Bassong is in London he doesn''t feel he needs protection from racists; he might have more to fear from black on black crime - for which The Met has a specialised unit; because of his status and wealth. And here is another thing; the difficulties young black boys in our cities face from gangs, rivals and avoiding membership in general is far worse than racism. It threatens everything from their education to their lives. Meanwhile, society frets over a few morons on Twitter. I bet Seb sees a much bigger picture.

Sebastian, we might have a few idiots but you can feel safe and welcome in Norwich.
