Cat 1 Status

Recommended Posts

Not really sure why this isn''t being discussed?!The club have confirmed that Category 1 status have been awarded to the academy this afternoon.  This is fantastic news for the future of the academy and the club, hopefully we can bring through a few more Bellamy''s and cement our position in the upper echelons of English football.Congratulations to Ricky Martin and all his staff + the little help all of the Pups put towards the academy!

Yes, congratulations Ricky Martin. May the production line continue to churn out first team player after first team player. Oh, hang on, it hasn''t done that years has it. Getting Category One status is goodness IF the person in charge can come up with the goods. The academy has one purpose, to produce young players ready to step into the Norwich City first team. It has FAILED in this single simple objective for years. With current success rate you would be better off turning Colney into a park and ride site and using the revenue to buy players. Putting Mr Martin in would reward failure on a scale so epic I can''t see McNasty accepting it. Expect a new appointment soon.

The academy hasn''t produced since the 90 minute rule was introduced, Cat 1 status means that rule no longer applies. Also I would add the seasons worth of football out of Korey Smith and the 2 seasons worth out of Chris Martin on the way to the Premier League were very valuable to the club at a time of financial constraint.

great news! hopefully more Bellamys rather than Ryan Jarvises now! We still have the best of Dec Rudd and Jed Steer to see and our rapid rise hasnt made it easy to blood new youth players.

mongo that''s the whole point of cat1 status. so that we can bring in talent.

from what I understand, so far our most promising youngsters are francomb and Loza. but now the academy has such a wider area to go look for quality youngsters and bring them into the club, which should improve the number of players coming up through the academy in a few years time.

The Murphy twins are the biggest prospects in the academy at the moment.

Norwich intially didn''t offer Loza a new contract in the summer, but with the anticipated Cat 1 academy and the U21 League there was the need for a few more players. Having seen a little bit of Loza play he generally does well as he is bigger and stronger than others his age - he doesn''t have the greatest technical ability.

The Murphy twins have ability to burn though, and regulary show up players 3 or 4 years their senior - hopefully they can continue to develop well and make some first team apperances at some point.
And you think the club should reward failure by keeping the present encumbents in charge?
I wouldn''t say the present staff have failed - they have been in an impossible situation of poor catchment area and very limited resources.

4 young players in the England system isn''t bad going and hopefully with more resources and the ability to scout beyond Norfolk and the North Sea will mean greater returns in the future.

How was your trip to Bolton at the weekend Mungo... a well needed 3 points for you binmen!

Back to the topic - fantastic news that we have Cat 1 status, this gives us a great platform to revitalise youth football at Norwich whlist developing our coaching, welfare and education of young players.

Great news - well done City!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_Player_Performance_Plan

It''s interesting that we can send people to watch players at any other Academy provided we give 48 hours notice.  I think it''s pretty vital that we get moving on that as soon as possible, sweep through the lower category academies and scoop up as many talented youngsters as we can.

I believe that once a player is in a Category 1 academy, there is no set fee to poach them.  As such, we need to act quickly to ensure that the best talent not already aligned to a Category 1 academy is spotted, and that we attempt to get them on board here.

Absolutely correct Bethnal, I nearly wrote very much word for word your first response to Mungo''s nonsense at the start of this thread but got tied up with something else - so glad that you put him right.

I would hate to be in the position of anyone who isn''t cat 1 now.

Yet another step in the continual improvement process established by Bowkett & McNally as endorsed by Deliia & Hubby.

Excellent news.

That''s the second time you''ve used that line Bly! Did they teach you that in rehab?

Now dear Lappy, didn''t your mother teach you that good things are worth repeating?
In the long run this is excellent news. We used to be renowned for producing players through our youth system - and hopefully we will be again.
Excellent news for this message board too, as we can all pour more angst and fury onto the Board and Manager when we sell our brightest young stars to bigger clubs.

As often there is an element of truth in Bumbo Munchkins posts, unfortunately to stay in character he has to dress them up as absurd rants.

Yes, there are few players who have came through to play in the PL with us, but there are also fewer players who have come through any English club playing in the PL. The PL is top heavy with ''ready made'' PL quality players so is never going to be easy.

This will not be an overnight success and it will be years ahead before we may see the benefits - but it is the right direction for us. Right in developing the infrastructure and right in bringing in top coaches. Team GB showed the enormous benefits of bringing in quality coaching. It is also putting the money into the hands of football and football people, not into the hands of parasites who have offshore accounts in Monaco.

It may just be coincidental, but we are well into a season where it appears that simply throwing money at the problem is not necessarily the only answer. Teams like Arsenal and Man Utd are being beaten by teams like us. Clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool appear to be malfunctioning, where clubs West Brom and Swansea have shown it can be done.

If ths is not the beginning of the break up of the nig money side of football, it certainly is the beginning of the building of a big future for us. Something every City fan should be well cheered by.
