gravycanaries 0 Posted December 3, 2012 Now thi morning flicking through my time line in twitter I came across a tweet that said bent would be coming to us in January. This bloke has allways been quite good with Norwich transfers. Now when I read this I thought it was utter tosh until a couple of hours ago when two villa fan mates text me saying exactly the same thing. Now it does make me think. Bent is clearly not in lamberts plans and is apparently only on 42k per week and considering bassong is apparently on 40 k pw here doesn''t rule us out. Lambert is also manager of villa so is he thinking of swap and cash for bent? I just thought coming up to silly season I would share what I''ve heard so what do people think. I know I would certainly have him here in a flash.
Gingerpele 0 Posted December 3, 2012 Bassong is apparently on 40k? According to who? Never heard that...I''d be shocked if Bent comes here, its very unlikely.
Morisons Prozac 0 Posted December 3, 2012 Will Lambert, who isn''t on the best terms with our club right now, allow us to sign an ex-Ipswich striker who is a proven scorer at this level when potentially we could be relegation rivals. It''s highly unlikely imo.
lake district canary 0 Posted December 3, 2012 As much chance of this happening as Mungo ever becoming a proper supporter.

Gingerpele 0 Posted December 3, 2012 Fair enough, just never come across that before. Seems like quite a lot to jump up to, since most the the numbers flying around Holt when he wanted a better contract were between £20-30k a week...But at some point we were always going to have to start paying players more. Unless we want to lose all our good players and get relegated.
gravycanaries 0 Posted December 3, 2012 I think 40k per week for bassong is a steal. The man oozes quality and is a player we could if only dreamt of having at the club a few years back.
NWC 315 Posted December 3, 2012 Me too. We can''t keep hoping lower league players will step up to the class of the premier league. Proven quality costs money.
ZLF 335 Posted December 3, 2012 a report at the weekend had bents pay at £80k pw. and bassong has come via two of the highest payeing clubs in the league - its not going to be cheap!!! def worth it though.. the truth is none of us know - incl what our players are getting. Jonzey 0 Posted December 3, 2012 With respect OP, never gonna happen. For these reasons; He''s ex Binner. He''s a mercenary, so perfect for ''arry at QPR in Jan.His wages are well out of our budget. (Bassong is never on 40k btw!)When he was left out last year he didn''t go the stadium to support his team mates, he went shopping! Hes also clearly being left out for this bad attitude now. The top brass don''t tend to sign these types. He''s past his best, again we don''t sign those types. The Aston Villa top brass wouldn''t do business with ours given the recent bad blood. To name but a few, but mainly he''s an ex Binner.
BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted December 3, 2012 No thanks. We can''t accomodate a lazy goal hanger type. OTBC
Making Plans 957 Posted December 3, 2012 If he''s not good enough for Lambert then he''s definitely not good enough for Hughton. No deal
Branston Pickle 4,149 Posted December 3, 2012 A guy near me reckoned Bent for Russ Martin yesterday, has always been a favourite of Lambert. Can''t really see it happening, but it does seem to be out there.
ncfcstar 342 Posted December 3, 2012 Haven''t seen something so ridiculous for quite some time. This will never happen, not in a million years. And as for a Russ Martin/Bent swap, a guy we paid, what. £50k for swapped with someone who went for £24m not so long ago?! Jesus wept. York Canary 29 Posted December 3, 2012
Bents got QPR written all over him.
Totally. Redknapp likes him and had him at Spurs. Plus they''ll have money as always and can afford the massive wages. They need a striker too. Though he did say that they won''t make any big signings if they''re too far from safety by Jan. However, I don''t believe him at all because he lives for transfer windows and transfer bungs!

Evesham Canary 0 Posted December 3, 2012 Not sure Bent can play in the system we are currently using. He can''t hold the ball up and he won''t put the kind of selfless shift in that Holty has been doing over the last couple of months. He is a goalscorer pure & simple.I must say I don''t agree with those who say not good enough for us - England striker with a record of pretty much a goal every 2 games. Not that old either! My view is that any striker we get in January will be a younger Holt/Morison option who will run the channels, work his socks off and (hopefully) have some goals in. The lad at Maribor who scored home & away against Spurs would seem to fit that bill.
a1canary 0 Posted December 3, 2012 Never in a million years. For 80k reasons.BUT, i''d quite like it if only because we would be a perfect platform for Bent to stick it to Lambert, and he probably would i reckon. Just a shame we will have already played them by January

Firstly the fact that everyone gets a chance to re-name their 25 man squad for the second half of the season I believe. So whether sold or omitted I should imagine that you''d find Lappin and C.Martin out of the squad. The space freed up by them might be used to bring in a couple of striking options. Having said that at 21 Beric wouldn''t count. But with Holt 31 and Morison 29 I would prefer to see someone come in that could be considered the future and with a bit more pace. That''s why I am not convinced with Graham.I''m not saying Bent would not come here, maybe he has earn''t his millions like Huckerby? I am just doubtful of it. He is admired by enough clubs to have a bit of a pick. Stoke maybe? Sunderland? Fulham? There are plenty of people that would and could sign him. And he is pretty reliable.I think a lot of his current strop is due to Lambert turning up and dropping him almost straight away.I said at the time Villa was a funny place for Lambert to go. They don''t suit each other. He hasn''t got the guarded charisma of O''Neil who manages at times to deflect some questions with humour. I thought he came across as very awkward when questioned about Bent by the press.
