wingers

Recommended Posts

real sorry to say this but we are really missing bentley, mcveigh and even huckerby after 1 game out. we go and spend 3mil on a target man and no one in the midfield can cross a ball.
graham stuart is VERY VERY average, no better than what we have already.
Jonson is a nutter!!! i love his commitment but he has been a disappointment and is not a winger.
although bentley''s commitment is questioned, he does put an excellent ball into the box as does hucks and mcveigh. i no hucks and bentley are injured so why isnt mcveigh playing? should have played last night, especially against a winger like sean Wright Phillips who is his size and similar players.

I agree we are missing Bents.  We miss his creativity.  However, I don''t think we miss WLY.  We haven''t missed him all season!  Like others I don''t think he''s made the step up to this level.  I wouldn''t describe Stuart as "very average" either.  Despite my reservations when we signed him, I think he''s been a great acquisition

Wingers in the modern game - name more than half a dozen; yes they are exciting to watch but really just dont exist in any quantity any more.   I do agree though that we are missing sme creativity which is where Bentley Hux come in - we cant have missed wee zipper as he simply has not appeared - (on a side issue how much do I wish Worthy had the same attitude to Flem that he has to McVeigh)  I have always said a players importance is only seen once he is out of teh team, and boy isnt Bentleys contribution being missed.

I also cant understand all this criticism of Stuart - he has added more to our midfield than the combined efforts of Holt, Safri, McVeigh and Mullers since he has been here and that is despite being patently unfit.   Getting him in the middle with Francis is a must.

Yes they do!Ronaldo, Giggs, Reyes, Robben, Duff, Robert, Pires, Wright-Phillips, Kewell, Figo... I could go on.These are all wide players, who do all the jobs of a winger ie. beat people, score, cross.

Just wondering about Worthy''s desicion to bring in Mattias Jonson instead of Jan Kristiansen,  Probly because Jonson is an international and played in Euro 2004, Kristiansen had by FAR better season record than him in the Danish League. Not only having being top assist guy in Denamrk last season but also scoring quite alot for a winger too. Okay Jonson maybe more experienced and a international but Kristiansen is only 23 ....

I find it wierd how Worthy decided to bring Jonson in ahead of my mate Fat Dan, he could have done a better job than Jonson.

Fair does Worthy N, I stand corrected they do exist and they are all world class wingers, and you can probably add Ronaldinho if you are going to include Robben & Reyes - but only Figo and Giggs have so far proved consistent and all are world class and well beyond our price range.

Who are the ones we should be looking at, ie can afford and do a job for us at a consistent level?  Gronkjaer, like Robert, shows how infuriating this type of winger is, and Jonson is probably similar to him, but defends better.    Where are those players who do nothing but hug the by line and run at players?  I think there are far more David Beckham type players, who rarely take on the full back and provide enormous cover to their own defence and that rather than a winger is what we should be looking for in a right sided midfielder.

If Stuart was younger he would fit the bill for me.

We have missed the service that bentley provided i think. however i think the tactic of long balls to the strikers worked quite well on monday. I know hoofing it to the forwards is not a great tactic but McKenzie seemed to work well with making runs
