GJP 79 Posted October 9, 2012 Think you''re being a bit harsh on Shelvey. He''s come on leaps and bounds in recent months and has got more going for him than Livermore (not that I''m saying that''s justification for a call up). I also think Andy Carroll is worth his place in the squad but I think there''s room for another striker in the squad - just as I did with the Euros. Agree about James Milner. Workhorse who gets his final ball wrong too many times. Not sure about the extra left back thing but perhaps with Ashley Cole''s antics it was just good foresight! Welbeck is England''s Jackson...
Agree about James Milner. Workhorse who gets his final ball wrong too many times.
Despite the clear Norwich bias, I''d rather take Pilks than Milner but maybe that''s because I like wingers to attack instead of defend...
Not sure about the extra left back thing but perhaps with Ashley Cole''s antics it was just good foresight!
The FA don''t see it that way though and he''s escaped any real punishment (another joke FA decision). GJP 79 Posted October 9, 2012 I guess maybe it depends on the motivation behind picking Shelvey. He could have a big future ahead of him and you could certainly see his potential from as soon as he broke through at Charlton. If they''re looking to get him involved because they''re looking at the long term bigger picture then I''m all for it. If they''re picking him because of the Liverpool connection...that''s not so good. As for the left back situation, I kind of wonder if they''re looking ahead to their options once Ashley Cole is past it. Obviously Cole is still very much worth his place but he''s also the wrong side of 30 so they maybe they want to have a look at who can replace him (Baines) and who can the replacements understudy (Gibbs, Bertrand etc).
