Ncfc, your having a laugh right?
No just another lower league striker going through a purple patch , Southampton are said to be offering him around for £3.5 million so they are not to keen on him at Premiership level.

Of course he will score a goal or two just like Holt will but the truth is neither of those two has that bit of class needed in the Premier League, they look lower league players , i believe Lambert is actually a better option than Holt (far better shot on him for starters) but if we want to stay up we need better . Do we really want to sign a striker that a newly promoted club do not consider good enough ?

Beware of cukoos in the canary nest Bury. It may not be just Archant that harbours them.

Yes Lambert better than Holt yet Saints want rid of him , Norwich give Holt a contract untill he''s nearly 35 , to me Holt will flop big time this season time will tell who''s right and who''s wrong .

Lambert might be wanting to leave rather than Southampton wanting to sell. He will certainly want a better contract. His family were attacked so he might not be keen on the Southampton area.Holt scored 23 goals in the promotion season from the Championship, Lambert scored 31.Lambert scores amazing goals. Have a watch of this:http://youtu.be/kVUWmeE16us

I would consider that comparing the two is rather futile.

Mainly because Lambert has always been a ''target man'' as you would expect of someone that is 6''2". And as such is not as quick as Holt, and does not approach games with the same sort of attitude.

I believe Holt has not always played as a target man which is why he often drifts wider. He has often played off a target man or even out wide whilst playing for previous clubs. I guess this is primarily because he is 6'' on the nose which probably didn''t make coaches think of him as being that much taller than the average which is an asset an old fashioned target man is seen to have.

Both are quality players in the own right. Lambert has come from a higher level so his work ethic is different, his approach is different and therefore his style is different. There is something much rawer about Holt, he is incredibly instinctive and a warrior, a battler. For me that side of Holt may cost him a couple of goals a season but is far more beneficial to the team as a whole. Not to mention he is a leader.

So silly really to compare the two NCFC.

As for saying neither are premiership players. Scoring 10+ goals a season in the prem equates to being pretty reasonable so the stats suggest anyway.

Sure you may well want a real goal getter but they can cost a fair amount of dosh.

A purple patch which has lasted all of 5 years?

Incorrect, as Lambert actually played mostly as a central midfielder, prior Paul Trollope giving him a run upfront for Bristol Rovers towards the end of the 2007/08 season.

Of course, talking about these particular strikers, if Glenn Roeder hadn''t been obsessed in the summer of 2008 with vainly trying to persuade Rosenborg to keep the promise they''d apparently made to sell Steffen Iversen and had cut his losses and signed either Holt (who went from Forest to Shrewsbury for a measly £170,000) or Lambert, who was at Bristol Rovers and might well have cost about the same, then we wouldn''t have ended up playing Darel Russell up front and that whole season would have been a triumph and Roeder would still be our manager...[;)]

Do you still think we should have signed Lambert and not Holty Smudge?

Hey guys! How about you stop being retarded?! Reading this board sometimes is like listening to Canary Call while on a come down... ill informed, fluffy and mildly depressing, leaving one with a thought of ''why the F did I bother?!''

Holt is still a good player and will score goals this season. He is our talisman and his influence around the club should not go unnoticed. He typifies what we''ve tried to do at this wonderful club and, to be honest, has been reasonably successful at it. We know he always starts off slowly. Give it some time.

Rickie Lambert. Strikes the ball sweeter than most ''popular'' Prem strikers and would certainly be a good addition to our squad. Forget about his age, he is hungry to succeed in this league and it would be in his interest to continue doing well. I don''t think he''d sign for us, but he certainly would be better that some names I''ve heard bandied about.

What should we do? Continue with out policy of signing players with summat to prove? Or do a QPR and sign over priced journeymen who were lucky to become high profile players in the first place? Look how disjointed they look and then think about your comments again.

Peace

Could be Bury..

Holty and Lambert playing together again isn''t the daftest idea ever. Back 2005/6 they paired up for Rochdale and were the most feared strike partnership in League 2 scoring nearly 40 goals between them.

(Don''t know how that fits with Paul Trollope turning him into a striker at his next club though)

If he was not turned into a striker until Trollope got to work on him at Bristol Rovers he must have been some player at Rochdale to score 28 goals in 64 games.

Read what was said boys.Lambert played the majority of his games as a centre midfielder until the end of the 2007/08 season.I did not said that he never played as a striker up to that point in time, simply that the majority of his career was spent playing in centre midfield up until that point. This explains the apparent lack of goals in many of the earlier seasons in Lambert''s career."Educated at Liverpool''s Kirkby Sports

College - which produced European Cup-winning captains Phil Thompson

and Dennis Mortimer - Lambert was released from Anfield as a teenager.

After

being released by then Blackpool manager Steve McMahon in 2000, after

three substitute appearances, a spell out of the game followed. When he

had another go, it was hardly A-List stuff.

Spells

in midfield at Macclesfield - where he was initially paid only expenses

- Stockport and Rochdale preceded his move to Rovers. His scoring

record during this time was acceptable without being remarkable.

Old

school friend and Blackpool team-mate Danny Coid, now at Accrington,

said: ''We played up front together for our schools and practised on the

astro-turf outside Rickie''s house in Kirkby.

''I''d pass to him but he''d never pass back. He''d shoot from all angles. He always had more strength and power than anyone else.

After

Blackpool, I''d go to his house and he was really low. We used to see

other lads we knew getting contracts. Maybe it was a kick up the

backside for him."

Carry on talking out of your backsides now if you like?

FFS he won the golden boot at Rochdale Smudger. Lambert and Holt are legends there because for once Rochdale had the most feared strike force in the division.
Oh, so the Daily Mail must be wrong and Nutty Nigel must be correct then, because approx one season in his first twelve played upfront means that "Lambert has always been a ''target man"''?Dear oh dear, you really couldn''t make it up!

2000-01 and 2001-02 Midfielder/forward

Rickie Lambert

FL    League 36(8)8    Cups 5(0)2

Debut 3 March 2001 Chesterfield (Home)

A former Blackpool trainee, Rickie joined the Silkmen in

December 2000, initially playing most of his football in the

Youth and Reserve teams in the centre of midfield where he

gave some impressive performances.

He broke into the senior side towards the end of the

season and was promoted to the first-team squad for the

2001-02 season, quickly becoming a regular in the starting

line-up where he was equally effective in midfield or as a

striker.

http://menmedia.co.uk/rochdaleobserver/sport/football/rochdale/s/146/146308_dale_move_for_county_midfielder.html

STOCKPORT County manager Chris Turner revealed on Monday that Dale had made a bid for Rickie Lambert.

He said Lambert was in talks with Dale after the clubs had agreed a fee which has not been made public.

Lambert, a midfielder, joined County from Macclesfield Town in 2002.

He began his professional career with Blackpool.

http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/131239-Lambert-on-Football-Focus"But last week on Late Kick Off, Leroy Rosenior mentioned that he''d first seen a young Rickie Lambert playing for Rochdale, in midfield.

There''s the answer; there''s the explanation for so many good passes,

through balls and assists. He knows where players are because part of

his learning was playing in the middle."I think that Leroy Rosenior knows a little more about lower league football than Nutty Nigel.
