lake district canary 0 Posted September 4, 2012 I''ll probably get slaughtered for putting this on.................. Hands up if you will be following Villa''s progress this season! The most interesting thing from Sunday was watching to see if the Vile team shapes up like Norwich did under Lambert - and it looks as if they will. No closet Lambert mongering, just genuine interest. I can''t remember having had such an interest in what other teams are doing than this season, as well as obviously our own. Everywhere you look there are stories which make this season unusual. Caroll going to WH. Lambert to AV. BR to Liverpool. MU and MC looking as if they might not have everything their own way. Arsenal - complete changed around team, Tottenham with Avoir du Pont. West Brom looking good. Nearly everyone has strengthened their set up - including us. Its early days yet this season, but its a fascinating one already.

York Canary 29 Posted September 4, 2012 I will keep an eye on every club in the Prem pretty much as I did last season.. But yes, I will concentrate more closely on the teams that appear to be struggling early on.. The more the others struggle the better

TCCANARY 263 Posted September 4, 2012 I look at the all the Premier League fixtures each week and work out what would be a good result for us, as AV are currently below us I want them and all the other teams below and around us to lose every week, if those teams are playing each other then I hope for a draw (I don''t know why but I think using two points in a fixture is better than using three). A less stressful weekend for me is when the teams at the top are playing the teams at the bottom, the teams at the top must win, I always consider us having the form of a team at the top.I thought this was how all fans approached each set of fixtures. Google Bot 3,934 Posted September 4, 2012 This thread got me thinking. It was seven managers ago (And 12 years!) where another one of our ex-managers went on to another full-time contract as first team manager in club football. As follows:Lambert - Villa (Obviously)Gunn - Mobile phone company (Wasn''t it?)Roeder - Back to being a scout (Now at Villa)Grant - Back to being an assistantWorthy - Short caretaker role at the foxes, ended up with N.IrelandHamilton - Hid up down the road, eventually being moved on.Rioch - Went to Wigan. So i don''t think it''s with any shame that we still hold Lambert in high regards (At least in terms of his ability) And we''ll probably follow his career as far as it takes him... Just like we''ve done with O''Neil and Bellamy. It''s been a long time, for many supporters they''ve never had to experience the gaffer sleeping in the crested bed of a rival. So once again, no shame, doesn''t make you bitter etc.
BroadstairsR 2,273 Posted September 4, 2012 I will most certainly be following Villa''s every move this current season, although the interest probably will wane a bit after that. Threads about them interest me a lot. It takes all sorts. It is not sour grapes, anti-Lambert or childish pique, but the by-product of supporting your own team to the hilt. I wish them to badly struggle this season as I did not like the way they went about their business (nor PL for that matter.) They did, or at least tried to, short-change us in the matter (although the whole truth of that business seems destined to be kept from us for evermore,) and the arrogance and boastfulness of their supporters at the time (even to the point of mocking our own Club) rubbed it in. They might well be the bigger club than us that they claim, but we are hardly that small, nor the country cousins that they portrayed us to be. There are two other items on my agenda: Firstly, they are clearly to be relegation candidates and we might well be as also. The more they struggle, the better it is in our interests. Secondly, I lived in Brumland for over ten years and loved it to bits A great part of it is miles better that the image we have of some of the inner city areas (eg.Aston.[:D]) I found it to be a worthy Second City in all aspects, very multi-culteral and the traditional Brummie is an amiable grain of the salt of the earth. I always favoured Birmingham City FC. It seemed to me that Villa fans always looked down on that club as being the inferior neighbour and that a lot of Villa''s support was garnered from the fashionable Solihull and Sutton Coldfield areas, rather than the traditional working class areas that favoured the Blues. This is, of course, a massive generalisation and some might disagree with this deduction. They again showed this arrogance when dealing with our Club in the Summer, IMHO. I will wish fervently for Villa to continue their decline for the forseeable future and feel that this is not necessarily anti-Lambert but more anti Aston Villa Football Club and all it has become under Randy. We always knew that the loss of PL was inevitable, but it came at least a season too early for me and under dubious circumstances. I remain Mr. Angry of Broadstairs. Next topic? Ah! 1p5wich Yes I want them to struggle as well, but that''s a different matter that is, save to say, that part of the fun of supporting one club is to have an intense rivalry with another. There are two this season. Whoopee!
Mike 68 Posted September 4, 2012 No more so that I watch Wigan, WBA, Stoke etc. I don''t want any of them to do well as they will be in a dog fight to stay up with us.... as long as three of them are below us, I care not who.....
Lavanche 0 Posted September 4, 2012 I personaly watch Aston Villa closely as I watch other teams I dont like ^^I dont wish them anything good (neither Lambert) and hope they will be among the teams that relegate. They have acted so all high and mighty that some realitycheck serves them right. But in mean time I watch equally close other teams I hope to relegate or I think are fighting same spots with us. Who needs Eastenders/Corrie when you''ve got the goings on and change arounds that you get in football. Who last season would have thought Rodgers/Lambert would end up at Liverpool and Villa so soon? And the saga of Andy Caroll? And Avoir du Pois going to Totttenham? The Dempsey move? Van Persie? The merry go round and jockeying for position that goes on is a story in itself. Lambert? Am fascinated to see if Villa turn into Norwich mark two in the way they play. Its probably inevitable, but they are two seasons behind us in development so it might take him a bit longer to sort them out. Or maybe he''ll be a flop. Who knows. The soap opera is the story of the people involved. To some of us Norwich supporters that follow the sport of football - on whatever level - Villa has some relevance because we know how the manager - who is a real person - and we know his attributes and faults. How you can profess to follow sport - and being a Norwich supporter - and not have a just a smidgeon of extra interest in Villa this season? We all follow the sport - but the way players and managers move around is part of that sport - watching teams develop, the tactics the managers employ etc. etc. I shall be watching Villa and Liverpool''s progress with that extra bit of interest this season because of Rodgers and Lambert. I think as Norwich supporters we would be in denial if we didn''t have just a little extra interest in Villa this season.
