What's Your Least Favourite Football Ground ?

Recommended Posts

with people mentioning sincil bank on another thread, it set me thinking as to which of the few grounds ive visited was my favourite, or least favourite.

i think the worst ground ive been to is probably selhurst park, for no other reason than the stadium is situated in a particularly souless and depressing part of london.

i think my favourite ground is craven cottage, largely because of its pleasant river side setting but also because it''s not one of those massive, modern characterless stadia.

what do others think about football grounds they''ve been to. incidentally, heres a chance to brag;are any of you anywhere near to ticking off all 92 grounds? my slightly pathetic tally is around the 30 to 35 mark, it depends if you count old grounds like filbert st, maine rd and 1 or 2 others or not.

Selhurst Park has got to be high up there for the worst, mainly because it is a pig to get to as well as the dreary location.

Wimbledon, Dons or whatever, because I froze mywhatsits off there and it really is the pits.

Tally over 70 now

Worst has to be Selhurst Park. No character, no decent pubs/cafe near by, no atmosphere and we always play bad.

One of the most impressive grounds iv been to is the one in Forest. Its by the river, near the center, easy to get to, lots of pubs/cafes near by and a good view for then away fans.

Yup I''d agree with Selhurst Park.  You pay a fortune to sit in a stand with no leg room and wooden seats.  And we never win there.  Apart from that Grimsby and Ipswich aren''t that great.  I was very disappointed with Chelsea as well.

Nicest for me has to Old trafford.  Stunning.  Quite liked White Hart Lane too.  None as good as FCR of course!

Again I''d probably have to go for Selhurst Park too. The ground''s bad enough as it is, without all the bad memories from our many many defeats there.

Fratton Park is also up there unless you enjoy getting rained on.

But the very worst for me is Ninian Park. It''s a hideous, old, dank pit of a ground with cages, terraces and netting to stop misiles being thrown at the away supporters. Worst ground in the league.

selhurst park is better now than it was (standing in the corner under the legs of the floodlight pylon), but I can claim to have at least seen a City win there - goals from Fleck and Townsend doing for Charlto when they were temporary residents a few years ago.

Worse than that though was the old Goldstone Ground at Brighton (dreadful memeories and a real pit) and The Dell at Southampton in the days of terracing and fences - if you were anywhere near the font you were so far below ground level and with so many visual obstructions in your way you simply couldn''t see the game.

I did enjoy standing then (legs struggle a bit more nowadays), but boy it was hard to watch the game at times too!

For me the old Manor Ground in Oxford and Blundell Park Grimsby are the worst places I can remember, I also remember standing on a grass bank at Wigan many years back when we were knocked out of the FA cup by a single goal. Selhurst park wouldnt be so bad if it were not for the bad memories of loosing all the time - I''ve got my tickets now for that game - so hope the jinx will be broken this year.

My only experience of Selhurst was last year. Fine we lost but I enjoyed standing with 8000 away fans. But the surrounding area? less said the better.souless indeed...

Fratton Park this year was a proper dump.Although I hear they''re sticking a roof on the away stand. But it was the pits

I have visited 33 of the 92 leagues ground in the country (including Carrow Road) and plus as an extra, have also done the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

Worst:

Selhurst Park:  Absolutely terrible to get to and awful facilities. Went their when Wimbledon played in that boycott season and Palace last year with nearly 8,000 strong support and lost and the weather that day was horrible.

Millwall: Intimidation by the over zealous police and many Norwich fans nearly getting arrested for not getting into the Stadium quickly enough!

Rotherham: Walking down that alley and the state of the ground was dreadful.

National Hockey Stadium: Open stands, no atmosphere and typically we went their on a cold windy day but the win made up for it.

Ninian Park: Thug fans and the stadium looking in a depressing state.

Anfield: Purely because of the seat I got!!!!

Best:

City Of Manchester Stadium: Just loved the design and very similar to the Telstra Stadium in Sydney where England won the RWC. Amazing to believe that the commonwealth games were staged their now with the stadium like that looked very impressive illumniated at night.

Old Trafford: Purely because of the size of the thing

White Hart Lane: Very compact and quite neat

Have to agree with the bad memories of Selhurst Park although last year as one of the 8000 it was a lot more fun! The surrounding area (as has been mentioned) is bleak and parking''s stupidly hard to find.

Personally I remember us playing at Adams Park (Wycombe) in a cup match years ago. Remember not liking it but then I was very small at the time. Just seems like a bad memory to me.

Also really hated Everton. Just basically didn''t feel safe in or around the ground at all!!

Want to defend the National Hockey Stadium too!! It was a great stadium for hockey and, as the pitch is smaller than football there was a lot more room to wander. It had a great atmosphere the few times I went to see National Finals there. BUT as a football stadium I agree that it''s poor but IT''S NOT A FOOTBALL STADIUM!!! But it was sooo windy!

Loved the Millennium Stadium, will always remember that day. It wasn''t just the ground though, it was the area around it too.

Pride park and St marys quite impressed me but we lost both games so can''t really say I enjoyed the experience very much. Worst ones have to be Cambridge and Port Vale although they were both in the eighties and they have improved slightly since then. Everton was a dump as well, have been there twice and we lost 5-0 and 3-1. It''s a long way home after a defeat which makes the whole experience even worse.

Whoever mentioned Anfield was spot on too. Diabolical stadium. The actual stadium was only slightly bigger than Carrow Road but they''d somehow crammed 25,000 extra seats into the same space! And it was all made out of cheap tin, had no atmosphere and the surrounding area was run completely run down

One of the worst has to be somewhere we''ll be going to again next season. Kenilworth Road. Aargh! A terrible ground in the most depressing dump of a town in Britain.

The worst ground I have ever watched the first team play at is without any doubt the grass bank from which I witnessed us being embarrassingly dumped out of the FA Cup by Wigan in the late ''80s.

Mind you, the most embarrassed I have ever felt was at Carrow Road - at half-time the other Monday when Delia made us the laughing stock of the footballing world.

Millwall''s New Den reminds me of stadium that you could buy from Ikea.  Nothing good about it. The fact you can''t go to any pubs, need a police escort, get treated like animals,

St Andrews is a bit of a dump too. Walsall isn''t great

The newly done stamford bridge is prob my number 1. Where the away fans sit is so close to the action

for me it has to be the laughable withdean stadium at brighton. it was originally built to host davis cup tennis mathches! in the summer the main stands are dismantled and rented out to golf tornaments!

also fratton park is a joke with that stupid little tea shed, 6 wc''s for 5000 supporters and no roof. the majeski stadium is truly awful because it aint got a footballing sole and no history.

Loathe Selhurst

Like Anfield - i know others have said bad things about it but i have always enjoyed the atmosphere there - especially the last ever Kop stand match that we won one nil.

Also feel their fans have always treated us with respect

got to be luton (unless they''ve changed it) went a few years back with a mate and the town and the ground were both quite horrendous.

stadium of light at sunderland is a great ground because of the way it''s built you can sit anywhere with a very good view.
