fried_chicken 0 Posted August 1, 2012 was number 27 for Ajax last night on the right wing. He was really fast and had great control. Thinking back to Tierney''s few games last season, the only winger that had the beating of him like that was Walcott. He''s only 19 and has only played a few games for Ajax... potential loan move?? Thoughts...
Jacko 0 Posted August 1, 2012 I think the winger situation isnt a massive priority now. You have three excellent wingers in Bennett, Snodgrass and Pilkington all vying for inclusion. Who I think will all improve as the season goes on. There are other areas of the squad which probably need greater attention now.
safri_free_kick 0 Posted August 1, 2012 Very impressed by Lukoki last night, but I don''t think we''ll get him on loan. He seems easily good enough to at least be a squad player for Ajax.
Yellowfuture 71 Posted August 1, 2012 I enjoyed watching him play last night, he has terrific fast feet and was able to get in a good cross.Having said that as the game went on I thought Tierny did really well against him, he did poor old King of Spain a few times when he came on as sub. Walcott''s game is wait for the tackle, knock the ball forward and run onto it.
smooth 114 Posted August 1, 2012 He made our wingers look second rate yesterday, no question. Snodgrass barely played so we can''t judge him, but EB was ineffective and Pilky proved his dead ball skills and crossing are still the best in the squad, but without the pace he has to use his football brain and quality to put the ball in the right place. This is a top Ajax team and they proved it, we rarely looked a threat or could change our tactics to give them problems. Lukoki had the beating of our full back all night, second half every attack was coming down his side, great range of crosses and a great threat.
Theres only one Martin Peters! 0 Posted August 5, 2012 I enjoyed watching Lukoki, tremendous potential to be a really top player, although I thought Tierney did well against him. Comparisons with our wingers are not comparing like with like. This was a Hughton practice on how we are going to play against the top 4/6 Prem Teams, midfield playing very deep, 2 solid banks of 4 and concentrating on keeping shape and filling all the gaps in between making it hard to play against us, as employed successfully by Roy Hodgson at Fulham & West Brom. Consequently, our front 2 were isolated for much of the game and it was not possible for our wingers to link up with Howson & Johnson. I thought E Benno showed glimpses of what a good player he has become and Pilks scored a great freekick. They will both shine in a more adventurous formation. Mahogany 0 Posted August 5, 2012 I thought we pretty much matched them in the first half. After the first 10 minutes Tierney started handling Lukoki and while Ajax had the majority of the ball we always looked dangerous on the break with Vaughan. The problem started when Wes came on. With 5 in midfield our wingers should have been pushing up more but instead they stayed deep and we ended up playing pretty much 9-0-1.
