I think its probably clear this is what we need and I would be amazed and very dissapointed if we didnt get it. Especially the Centre Half considering we let Ayala go to Forest if he had stayed I would have said we were fine so I would be very worried by Hughtons judgement if he thought Ward or Barnett were better than Ayala. I Guess Curtis Davies is the worst kept secret in Football.

Lappin is not and has never been a left back. we can use him there sparingly and hope we get away with it. We seriously need another full back hopefully one like Naughton who could play on either side. We conceeded far too many goals last season and we are currently weaker than last year at full back losing Naughton and Drury and only Signing Whitaker. Naughton if we can afford him or someone similar.

We have the numbers up front but with one years experience of the premiership with this strike force its clear it needs to be freshened up.

Holt and Morison are adequate for the big man role , with current personnel I would play them both.

Vaughan is very much a risk and I dont think he can be relied upon if he is fit and scores thats a bonus. Jackson works hard but never really looks like he will be prolific at any level. Wilbo has gone. Some mention Chris Martin, for me his time has passed he''s porobably more of an attacking midfielder anyway and we now have much better players in the squad in that position. Dani Pacheco or Sam Baldock would give us something different up front.

I still think we need another 5 new players (that are better than what we have) to be confident of staying up.Right-back, Central Defender, Left-back, Defensive Midfielder, Striker.

Alternatively we could sign a defender who could play anywhere accross the back and  a Striker, forget the DM a luxury we dont need got enough players to cover.

That would have to be an amazing player to be able to play in every defensive position better than the defenders already at the club, and be affordable.
and  a Striker,
We can agree on that.

Such as?

I agree with keelan''s glove for the majority.

Centre half, full back on the left side and a striker our needed, but I do believe a central midfielder is needed in the Stuart Holden model

The start of the window the key areas for me was the spine of the team to be improved upon, winger was an extra. Maybe Whittaker is seen as this cover, but with a four year contract I would think he has thoughts of playing a lot. Turner is a great signing but with Ayala on loan I would feel more convinced of our survival with another centre half.

Been over this so much this summer and still not really covered what many of us think are gaping needs at the end of the season to move us on. No question our team can improve and be successful but it would be great if we had addressed these areas to show our strength to others in this division.

Let''s hope for some business before Saturday because if we sign players nearer the end of the window it will take them time to settle and that can be 2 months in the season we don''t have.

Bring it on Hughton and McNally

There are always better players out there than what you''ve got, and strengthening a squad is an ongoing process, but these constant threads where peoplecome on and say we must get this or we must get that or we''re going down are defeatist.

We could, of course, just accept  the players we have - 4 central defenders, 3 full backs and Lappin, Elliott Bennett can defend in right back if needed.       The midfield is surely fully stocked and strikers we have 4 decent ones.    It''s been said time and time again - the management will strengthen when the right players come available - but we HAVE to accept the players we''ve got as being able to do the job.   Otherwise what''s the point of having a club??  Is it - "Oh, its ok, I''m not going to support certain players because I don''t think their good enough" or is it "We can always strengthen, but we have good players at the club, lets get behind what we''ve got"?

Imo - they are good enough - but any new players are welcome, of course - just not as urgent to get them as some seem to think.

Well LDC you are easily pleased and obviously your opinion differs to that of Mr Lambert

The key is evolution improving the squad year on year. Midfield has improved

Defence and Attack have lost more players than so far have been signed and playing players that were deemed surplus to requirement last season is not a step forward

I have two legs and could at a push play at full back , but i wouldnt recommend it !

Its not that I''m easily pleased KG, its just the emphasis on the positive.   My view is that we should believe in the players we have now and evolve.    You can have your cake and eat it.  I''m not necessarily aiming this at you but to some posters on here our players are not up to the job - yet they plainly are, as evidenced from the last two seasons.  And its been strengthened over the Summer.

There is always room for improvement, just not as desperately as some would suggest.
