You all want a striker...

Recommended Posts

Odemwingie or Christian Benteke from Genk. Played brilliant against Holland for the Belgians aparently. He wants to move to England he said.

The new striker arriving next week will be different to what we have. He will have pace and power. And only Bethnal will have seen him play...[;)]
Just to put some perspective on Kenwyn Jones, he would cost us at least £5 million plus addons, agent fees etc, plus wages of 40 grand a week (reputed what he is on at Stoke). So, in a couple of years if we stay up we can go for players of his level like Stoke did.Does that tell you the reality of where we are in the pecking order?
But we''re a Premier League football club sat in arguably the best club league in the world. There are literally thousands of strikers out there who would love to sign for us and who wouldn''t be out of our price range. To suggest we have to pay millions for one is a little short sighted. We just need to open our net and take a couple of calculated risks on unknowns.

Agree about Benteke. I didn''t realise that he was only 21. Sign him up!

Also worthy of consideration, his Genk team-mate, Jelle Vossen. 23 years old, one of the top scorers in Belgium.

Different to Benteke in that he is less of an athlete, but arguably a better finisher.

Also, does anyone else get the feeling that Belgium will be a real force in world football soon? How have Belgium been able to breed a generation of genuinely quality players?

Going back to the 1980s and early 1990s Belgium were a strong team. What was surprising was how low they fell later on.
