Dean Coneys boots

Southampton after duo

Recommended Posts

I read that Soton are considering a bid for both Zaha and Clyne from Palace. Both young, both hungry and both talented. (I have watched them a bit this season and Zaha especially has potential in spade loads)

Are these the sort we should be after?

Zaha has potential but is massively overhyped. He might be a 10m player in a few years but I seem to remember hearing they want 8 for him now and that''s crazy. If we are going to spend silly money it should be on a player with ability not potential.

No both overhyped and will struggle in the prem

Chucking a load of money at it doesn''t necessarily mean instant success...ask QPR fans

I think Zaha is abit like the Championships Bale. He has one or two blinding games a season, which makes him out to be a superb talent but they are just not good enough on a consistent basis. I remember a few seasons ago when he started to make a name for himself, he played us (I think we lost, mainly due to him) and he tore us apart. He was 17 back then. I do think that he''d be a top player if someone can improve his consistency, but it is a risk. Personally, I''d like us to sign them.

I''d rather we went for players such as Junior Hoilet and Kyle Naughton rather than the palace pair. Hoilet and Naughton have valuable experience and have proven that they can perform well in the premiership. If rumours are true Hoilet is available for around £4m and Naughton £5m. £9m for them two would be an absolute bargain compared to the reported £8m for the palace pair.

You have to consider wages. If Sunderland and Everton are failing to agree his terms, then how the hell have we got a chance? He''s apparently joining QPR as they are offering the best terms.

Last I heard on Junior was that he expected a minimum of 50k a week plus other bonuses on top of this.Clearly a talented and promising player but that''s a hefty chunk to ask for after a single decent season...

I think he''s had two good seasons, but yeah 50k is way too high, especially given that because he isn''t available on a free. I''d guess a tribunal would put a pretty high price on him.

Sooner or later we will all have to get our heads around the fact that £40-£50K a week is what many decent premiership players expect to be paid and the club will have to start paying something closer to it. Unfortunately it is going to be 2 or 3 years before we can and until then we need our managers to keep working miracles!
