getting a bit worried

Recommended Posts

I am growing concerned at the lack of transfer activity. I cannot be alone in thinking the Premiership is a punishing place for those who stand still?

Yes the boys were amazing last season but they were also on a high from promotion and punching well above their weight. At some point they will find the right level I reckon and, at the moment,  that could be relegation with a damn good fight.

let''s not forget the squad is weaker than last season at the moment. We have lost Naughton and Lambert (however good Hughton is this has caused instability) and so far only signed some fairly cheap options.

Why werent we in for Guthrie? Top signing and a real possibility. Why not in for someone like Clyne from Palarse? We need to compete with those around us and so far West Ham and Southampton look more ambitious than us....

I hope I am wrong and the big signings are round the corner. And good on the new man for checking out what he has... but time waits for no one in the Prem and I am worried we might lose out

Today is only the third day back at training ,at least allow Hughton a full week to have a look at his players? and if he hasn''t an idea of what needs strengthening then ,I''m sure he''ll have a better idea after the week in Austria next week.

It is a prudent manager that assesses what he has before jumping in to the transfer market and potentially trying to strengthen in an area that isn''t a priority, with a limited amount of funds too.  I''m sure if Lambert was here still he would have had and secured targets based on his judgement last season, but when you mention instability that''s we are at the moment with a period on reassessment by a new manager.

In addition it would be quite demotivating for players if without having been given a chance to prove themselves they were ousted in favour of new targets.  I''m not concerned myself, but that doesn''t mean I don''t think we will be in for a challenging season and I won''t be calling for the managers head if we get off to a tough start, he is playing it well so far in my opinion.

There have not been stacks of signings. Even Lambert who notoriously likes to get things done early, has only added two signings so far. (Holman was a McLeish signing). That is because like Hughton he needs to have a long hard assessment of what he has got. We aren''t exactly flush with cash so I would rather he took his time and spent on the right players. We have still got around 40 days before the season starts to sign players. That is a long time in football.

I''ve seen a few hints of people being dissatisfied, like sending McNally questions on twitter demanding to know why we haven''t bought more players and insinuating that the two we''ve brought in aren''t good enough.

I can understand the frustration, as the past couple of summers we''ve done our business very early on, but it also annoys me, ''cos they''re not giving Hughton a chance.

It ill be a very challenging year regardless of who we sign, survival is still the only goal, but to start writing off our team two days into pre-season training seems pretty premature.

I''m fairly confident that we will add to our squad further by the end of the summer, but please, let''s give our new manager a chance!

Jez, I agree with you, give CH the chance to assess what he''s got and what he needs. I''m anxious for signings too and I feel we''re midding out when I hear that Swansea have signed De Guzman for example etc... But i''m still confident that we''ll be doing bussiness aswell soon.

I won''t post again on here as you make a fair point about the thread going OT, but while I''m here...Instead of either ignoring GP''s slightly flippant post, or explaining why you quoted it, you replied with an agressive challenge. I''m NOT saying you can''t reply (which hopefully gets me off the hypocrite charge) but I am 1) questioning your tone, and 2) trying to draw attention to the potential contradiction in your answer. Equally, suggesting you''re a keyboard warrior could be seen as agressive too, so I apologise for that.Nuff Said

To be getting worried about a lack of signings on 11th July is a little farcical to be honest (especially when Norwich have already signed 2 players). Hughton has said he will be bringing players in and has the transfer funds to do so - he just needs a little time to consider where the money is best spent.

Worry about it 11th August, but not right now.

Re the relegation comment, we, like probably 13 other teams will have relegation hanging over us like the sword of Damocles for most of the season.

And regarding inaccuracies, can You post corrections for our education?

I on the other hand am perfectly relaxed about this season, we won''t finish as high or be as comfortable as last but we''ll stay up. Hughton has brought in two good additions, I''m aware they''re not the multi-million pound big names people want but they''ve been signed in areas we don''t need those big names or too chuck a lot of money at.
Chris Hughton is one of the most respected people in English football and he needs time to assess the other areas of the squad, we''re still over a month away from the start of the season and 6 weeks left in the transfer window.
Calm down and let Hughton get on with his job.

I trust Hughton with picking the right players.Do I think the players we have brought in are improving our first 11? No not quite yet.Whittaker is a superb wise head to bring in who can help our defence and a young midfielder with great potential in an area where we have a very good young group.I actually think our short European tour is great, because whenever we have a long pre-season away from Carrow Road we don''t do business. The fact we are pretty much based here means those discussions can be ongoing. We do need to look at filling the holes in our first 11 and I feel that 2 of those signings before the end of this month is critical, we need players who have gained an understanding of our exisiting players before the first game. I do not accept the ''getting in to the swing of it'' over 3-4 games at the start of the season - we need to be ready 3pm at Craven Cottage and perform at a very good level, we cannot afford losing points as we gain form at the start of the season. It is exciting and I look forward to the key signings that will be coming in to the squad.
