RB not a RB

Recommended Posts

Ryan Bennett replaced Russel M at RB at half time on Saturday, was hoping he would be effective there being quick and mobile, but did not impress, still need new RB unless Whittaker can step up.  Russel M looks more impressive at CB than RB from last season.  Also need cover at LB as Lappin did not look the answer.  Can we get Naughton back perhaps on loan may need to pay hefty loan fee or can CH find adequate replacement.  Please meet my my hopes.

I don''t get the Whittaker negativity... we didn''t buy him to sit in the reserves - pretty obvious he''ll

either start or be on the bench when fit. As such we''ve got him at

Martin fighting it out for 1st choice of RB.I guess we played Bennett there on Saturday to 1) give him some game time & 2) to test out if he could cover if worst case (i.e. tactical change midway through a game due to a sending off or if we are chasing a game & take off a defender to be more attacking etc.). I wouldn''t read too much into it.I agree we need a LB though... I love Lappin, but would be a worry if Tierney got another injury.

I thought Whittaker played really well in the Celtic friendly before he came off.

But agree Bennett is no right back.

I don''t understand this Whittaker doubt that everyone seems to have, he has clearly impressed Hughton enough (who was a defender) so we can surely trust his judgement. We absolutely need someone to come in who can play at l/b, I like Lappin but he is never going to be more than a very occasional PL pick.

I thought Whittaker looked good at Celtic, pretty mobile and keen to get forward. Bennett was put at RB simply because there were no RB''s in reserve and it was hardly a surprise that he didn''t stand out ( I thought he did ok, although anyone playing in a back four containing Ward, who managed to get caught badly out of position twice in his 20 minutes on the pitch, is going to look half decent.I actually wonder whether Elliott Bennett might eventually end up as an RB.

LB is obviously the big concern as Lapp is clearly not adequate back up, but I suspect that we''ll see a left sided defensive player coming in in the next week or so.

Benno is a winger who is very good defensively and Whittaker is a RB who is good at going forwards, they could form a very good partnership.

I dont have anything to against Whittaker and I''m quite sure he could play most of the games at RB place, but he doesnt have pace or defencive ability against fast wingers. Thats why I would like to see another signing on the RB section as Martin might have defencive ability, but he doesnt have what it takes in offencive part of the field.

Ofc Whittaker can prove me wrong and my opinion is from highlights of scottish league so they don really tell anything, but in year or two we will need new RB anyway, if we manage stay up.

But for example Southampton signed Nathaniel Clyne who will possible become new Walker or at least new Naughton. We should aim someone similar.
Didn''t E. Bennet look handy there against Bolton last season?
He certainly did and that was not the only occasion last season.
