Should have cut McCartney out, should have cut out the French announcements (seriously, WHY?!), should have cut Coe''s speech & the French Olympic President''s speech, and kept the BMX and more fireworks. Loved the Monkeys and Mr Bean though.

Because the official language of the IOC is French. So it has to be.

Indeed. Because the modern Olympics were founded by a Frenchman.

And a total waste of money,Billions spent and nothing to show for it at the end, what did the world cup do for South Africa, how long Has the country known that the olympics were being held in London, still couldn''t get security sorted out in time, when all they needed to do was to deploy the reserve forces and use the time as part of the obligatory training period in order to qualify for annual pay, what the hell was G4S needed for they cost millions sorry if I sound like Wiz

Did anyone see Adrian Burley (Conservative Nazi Uniform fame) tweeting during the ceremony? I think he must be too stupid to be an MP, even if you are stupid enough to think these things don''t tweet them!

I don''t think it is possible to be too stupid to be a Conservative MP. Actually more de rigueur if anything...

It was great; thought provoking, humorous and cost consciously stunningly delivered a message of the proud history of our country and why we are GREAT Britain.

Left wing politicising? Do you see an attack on the gov on the NHS bit, or as i did a celebration of a remarkable facility that is central example of the the humanity my proud nation demonstrates?

It made my tingle with pride at the national anthem with the industrial transformation, Emile Sandes and the dance troupes stunning abide with me and the national modesty of allow the next generation to light the simply magnificently create cauldron.

English, British & proud

I don''t normally like watching opening ceremonies for sport events, but I thought the London 2012 opening was fantastic. Will even watch it again minus the Countries parade thing that went on for ages lol

So how stupid are those who still cling to failed lefty ideologies such as socialism and communism? As stupid as the day is long I''d say.

I was privileged to be there last night and can report that it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Absoluely awesome although I did lose the will to live by the tme nation no. 204 appeared in the parade. Just when you think you down to the Xs, Ys and Zs a few countries you''ve never heard of appear! That part does need to be cut down in future but other than that it was brilliant.

And in response to an earlier post, Greater Anglia had arranged two additional very late night trains from Liverpool Street to Norwich and, as the ceremony lasted longer than anticipated and indeed didn''t finish until after the first extra train was due to leave, they had the sense to hold it back until people attending the ceremony could get to Stratford station so well done them.

Anyone who has an opportunity to get a ticket for an event in the Park should do so just to be part of a fabulous experience.

Wow- some of you actually thought that was good... thought I must have missed some great stuff after I turned off but on watching the highlights I still cant see what the hell that was supposed to be.Should someone not have pointed out to Mr Boyle that the Olympics is hosted by a city NOT a country (it''s London 2012 not GB or UK 2012) and that it is a sporting event not a music retrospective? What was the cop out 7 kids lighting the (very cool) flame all about? They are not Olympians- can''t believe they bottled that decision.

did you vote conservative by any chance?

although the ceremony was quite predictable, i thought the end of the first scene when the olympic rings went up and poured rain on the groups of people that has created a Britain that we see today very moving
I think some people just didn''t get it.  For an example,  I scoured a few American news sites to read their thoughts.  One established newspaper couldn''t understand why a couple of hundred people were dressed as Abe Lincoln.

I thought it was average at best. 5 out of 10. Further, with respect to reaction in other countries, having spoken to friends as well as reading newspapers, it appears most not only didn''t understand what was occurring but, for the most part, found great difficulty seeing how it related to the Olympic Games. Quite frankly, I could understand their reaction.

Apart from the appalling McCartney shambles at the end I thought it was great

Totally unique and British. Just as it should be

Not that I give 2 fucks about the Olympics mind

9/10 for me, great stuff with only a few bits I didn''t ''get'' and plenty of great set pieces. I couldn''t really care less how it ''looked'' to those abroad - not sure quite how telegraphed people want things to be, but it is our opening ceremony in our country and the vast majority of us thought it was fantastic.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed most of it.

Some of it was of Olympic gold medal brilliance.

Parts of it were quite thought-provoking.

Little that was cringe-worthy.

8 out of 10.

But who on earth are the Arctic Monkeys? At least I think that was what they were labelled. Dear oh dear, oh dear . Ugh!

I thought it was superb but unfortunately if not properly commentated on other nations may not understood some of it. And of cause there are always going to be those that judge a show on the amount of money spent on fireworks.
Since when does it have to have anything to do with the Games? In Athens the Greeks themed their ancient culture in Beijing the Chinese themed their return from the isolation of Communism . I thought Danny Boyle got it just right, our green and pleasant land changed by the industrial revolution. The forging of the rings was a superb touch IMO. Plenty of British deprecating humour, great hat tip to our prime place in popular music. Beckham, 007, the Queen. etc etcChrist Yankee, it was about Britain and from what I have seen on the news and the net it went down pretty well round the world. I know how insular the Yanks are but you must have a particularly one eyed bunch of friends if they couldn''t understand the context.

I was out for the evening and only caught The End, as it were, and Hey Jude. From what I have read it sounds like a glorious hodge-podge, with superb and not so superb bits, and I can understand it baffling some overseas watchers, but better than than something anodyne and over-orchestrated.

Britain IS a bizarre, theatrical country that defies one stereotype (although if it has a single gift to the world it is the English language and literature) and it sounds as if Boyle portrayed that diversity. And to include in an Olympic opening ceremony a shameless piece of propaganda for the NHS (I so hope Mitt Romney was watching) was close to genius. If there is eventually a DVD I''ll buy a copy.

Can I just add that I ''got it'' but just felt it was cringeworthy, predictable, irrelevant and for the large part self congratulatory.£27M for something that most people could have come up with in an afternoon at a beer garden. That said- 3 or 4 good moments. 2/10

I enjoyed the ceremony -- with all its eccentricity, a quality that I always loved in Britain. The opening scene, with the realistic landscape (farm animals!) was something I''ve never seen before in an opening ceremony, and I thought it was brilliant! Although I found the NHS part mostly irrelevant, it was entertaining too. 9/10
