Holt and Calderwood

Recommended Posts

Just been speaking to a work colleague who''s a Forest fan about the relationship between Holt and Calderwood whilst he managed him at Forest. He said it wasnt a great time, obviously Holt played on the wing as he couldnt get in up front ahead of Agoga and Barmby, and apparently the relationship wasnt great with Calderwood.

I just wonder did Holty know about Lambert leaving and Hughton/Calderwood coming in two weeks ago and hence put in a transfer request? As we''ve heard comments its not about money or 3yrs.

Hopefully not as Hughton is the manager not Calderwood. Still, im worried that its inevitable Holt is off to Villa with Lambert.

Yeh I feel this has more to do with Calderwood than anything else. Im sure the players have known that Lambert was leaving and as club captain Holt probably has some insider
somebody on BBC website had commented that they had a punch up when they were at forest!!!
If that is true then that would explain a lot.

Hughtons manager, not Calderwood. Hughton has a good reputation when it comes to promoting squad harmony, so after the Holt situation is sorted out it wouldn''t surprise me, if Holt is still at the club, if he makes them resolve their differences.

They certainly didn''t get on whilst at Forest whatsoever. Despite what some on here say about Forest fans turning on Holt, the opposite is quite true. Holt was fans player of the year, then Calderwood for some reason decided to shift him on to the left wing. They had a fall out and most fans were fully behind Holt and against Calderwood in that particular issue.

I doubt very much that the current Holt issue has anything to do with Calderwood though. Even if Holt DID know lambert was going to leave (something I doubt), then it would have been very risky to hand in a transfer request on the assumption that Hughton and Calderwood were coming in. What if Birmingham refused to play ball and we didn''t get Hughton and Calderwood? Holt would then have really backed himself into a corner for no good reason.

Whatever''s gone on re Holt and Calderwood in the past should, with respect, be irrelevant.

The bottom line is; does Grant Holt want to play to Norwich or not?  If so, he''s got to know from the start who the new management team is, and get on with it . If not, then we might as well get rid now, as a Grant Holt not playing 100% for the club and his boss is absolutely no use to us.

I was under the impression that at Forest, Holt got Player of the Season then (in circumstances similar to what is now going on) inexplicably handed in a transfer request- which is what caused the fall out.

Calderwood and Holt eventually agreed a truce- but Calderwood shifted him to the wing the following season.

I think we should all wait and see how it turns out, Hughton is the manager and a lot of water has gone under the bridge, Calderwood and Holt will I''m sure be brought together and the matter sorted and Holt then given the contract he''s after.

The following is from Holt''s Wiki page, my best mate is a Forest fan and says that this is accurate other than the omission that during the summer where Holt asked for a better contract Carlisle where also after him.

Holt made a slow start to his time with Forest, scoring four times in as many months at the end of the 2005–06 campaign. In November 2006, he turned down a move to Bristol City due to personal reasons, after the two clubs had agreed a fee.[6] However, despite being on the bench for approximately half of Forest''s in the 2006–07 season, he managed to score 18 goals in all competitions to become the club''s top scorer. Forest fans recognised Holt''s performances by handing him the ''Player of the Season'' award.[7]

In the summer of 2007, Holt and Forest boss Colin Calderwood reached an "uneasy truce" after the striker had a transfer request rebuffed, when Forest refused to give him an improved contract.[8] Holt made it clear that he would be "happy to stay" with Forest for the 2007–08 campaign, while Calderwood admitted "he''s not a player we want to see leave".[8] However, Holt failed to impress by only scoring three times all season, although he played out of position as a winger for the majority of the season.

In March 2008, Holt signed on loan with Championship club, Blackpool, making his debut as a late substitute against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on 22 March.[9] He made four substitute appearances before returning to Forest in the summer of 2008, saying he would like to stay and fight for his place in Forest''s team next season, despite interest being shown from his home town club Carlisle United.[10]

[edit] Shrewsbury Town

On 24 June 2008, Shrewsbury Town broke their club transfer record by signing Holt for £170,000. He was revealed at a club press conference along with defender Michael Jackson.[11] Holt opened his scoring account for the Shrews on his debut, scoring from the penalty spot against Macclesfield Town, in a game the Shrews won 4–0.

Regardless of Calderwood it seems Holt continues to be inflammatory on Twitter. His latest tweet reads "How shiny is his head looking on that camera. He knows who he is." Possibly referring to McNally in the presser. Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere. Strange behaviour from him. You''d think he''d try and sensibly put his issues across to Hughton and take it from there.

I''m pretty sure he said that during the 45 minute wait for Hughton & McNally to arrive. I think it was aimed at a journalist.
