Howson bid

Recommended Posts

I cant see any player going to Villa unless Hughton doesnt want them. I would think just because of the way everything has gone with Villa, they will have to add maybe 2 or more million ontop of the players value just because it''s them.

Howson is not for sale. He is the future. I doubt any other club could or would match our valuation of him. And yes, for Villa you could probably add on another couple of million.

It had to be Lambert at Villa didnt it. Well Lambert can get stuffed and we shouldnt sell any player for any amount until they cough up the compensation they owe us. This is why Lambert should get a bad reception when he brings his team here. He walks out on us and then tries to take all our best players with him. Lambert doesnt give a sh*t about Norwich, and we shouldnt give a sh*t about him.

TBH Howson is going to become priceless for NCFC in the next few seasons. Hell of a player already

If this is true then the attempt itself, never mind the fact that they offered just £4 Million (how much did Rodrigez go for?) then Lambert is taking the piss.

He knows the offer will be rejected.

But, equally, he knows it will make the news, Howson will hear of it, will talk to his agent, his agent will say, "...well look Jonny, you''re on ''x'' at Norwich, but Villa are offering you ''y'', its a great move for you mate, you should think about it...."

Howson''s head is turned and lo and behold, another potential unsettled player, another transfer request, something will have to give, one way or the other, usually the club where the wanted player is at.

This (again, if true) is going to be a real test for McN and the Board. Not for sale must mean that, period and Villa must be advised of that fact, period. Every player has his price? No,. not in this case and not with regard, especially, to fucking Villa and their new Manager. Make a stand please NCFC, kill this dead and do so now, not next week, not next month, but now, clearly and with conviction.

£4 fucking million, my, they HAVE got a lot of money to spend haven''t they?

Howson left his hometown club for us.The club he supported as a child. Played for his entire career.  Was made permanent captain and a fans'' favourite (sounds familiar).Howson was looking to leave that club he has so much history with on a Bosman transfer, refusing to sign a new contract because he wanted Premier League football.  He came here, to a club with no real history just to play in the Premier League.

I think he has three years left on his contract and unless we''re consistently finishing in the top 8 of the Prem I can''t see him staying past that.  In fact, I think he''ll be handing in a transfer request before he makes it half way through.  January will be a bigger test of his willingness to stay here than this summer.Wouldn''t expect to get more than £5m for him.  We don''t attract large transfer fees.

What do you mean we dont attract large transfer fees, we sell players for their value, not forgetting NCFC were the first club to sell a player for 1 million ( I think)

[/quote]Maybe "large transfer fees" wasn''t the right way to put it.  Perhaps "as large a transfer fee as you would expect a similarly talented player at a slightly larger club to be worth - might look large to us but a drop in the ocean to anyone else" would be better. We do sell clubs for their value, but their value is much lower when they are playing for us, and being supporters of the club we would demand even more on top.  Grant Holt is a top example of this; Some of you were demanding £6m up front as a minimum when loads of WH supporters were saying £4m was too much.  If they were signing him from Chelsea or Liverpool £6m would be much better value.

Sounds like a wind up to me.

We signed him in January for what? £1.5million rising to £2million wasn''t it? So £4million now? What a laugh.

Howson aint going nowhere for a while yet.  I loved that post about the chat with agent.  If anybody wants him, they''re looking at, in my opinion, paying around £8mil+.  Unless a club is relegated, not many stars move between prem clubs for much less than that.

Chill out guys, we''ll be alright...

We have mostly got good fee''s for our players throughout our history Ashton 7.2m, Fleck 2.2m, Bellamy 6.5 , Sutton 5m, Eadie 3.5m, Ruel Fox 2.2, Fashanu 1m all of those player were sold for huge fee''s at the time (i know some dont seem so big now). I think it sometimes seems we dont get good fees, due to the Earnshaw and Etuhu transfers were we had stupid contracts agreements with them and the fact that before Lamberts time we had a period were no one really wanted many of our players.

Don''t forget Dale Gordon, Kevin Drinkell, Andy Linighan, Andy Townsend, Ashley Ward, John Newsome all sold for significant sums certainly more than we paid but some time ago.  Only Dean Ashton for big fee in recent years.

Forgot all of those, to fair in recent years we havent had to many players that we could say we let go on the cheap, mainly because we''ve seen alot of poor players before the last three years.

Not going to happen, the only way we would be tempted is if it was 8 figures, and I seriously doubt anyone is going to offer that off the back of 11 Premier Appearances

None of our players will go to Villa UNLESS we are happy to let them go, they will also have to pay a premium for them

Trevor Francis left Birmingham for Nottingham Forest in Feb 1979 for around £1.1 Million, that was the first transfer of that value in this country.

Kevin Reeves left us for Man City over a year later-Steve Daley and Andy Gray had already broken the Francis record before then. Fash replaced Francis at Forest in Aug 81.

Villa are playing games-stirring things up, getting rumours going. I''m sure Lambert has primed that charming agent of his to stir things up a bit-the football clubs involved seem to be the last people to know about transfers now!

This is will have literally have to be the proverbial "silly money" offer if Lambert wants him. He is 6 months into a 3 and 1/2 year deal. So realistically Norwich hold the upper hand here. I would personally want at least £7 million and some agreement regarding compensation for Lambert. If Howson does become unsettled and wishes to leave you would have to ask the question why on earth did he sign in the first place? If it was all about the money surely he should have just waited until the summer when he would have been available on a free transfer and taken his chances.

He only had six months on his contract. We could of honestly not payed anything for him and waited til July. that''s why we got him cheap. he is easily worth at least 4m

This is right.   A great piece of business by the club.    Howson''s value increased as soon as we signed him. His performances have suggested he will be a top top player in a year or two.   Also given the length of his contract, in these days of still maddeningly high prices and clubs willing to pay them he must be worth £6m +.     It is  a compliment to our squad if other clubs are coveting our players - but at the moment we don''t have to sell any of them.   I don''t think we''ve ever been in such  a strong position as a club to be able to resist bids for players.   Exciting times. [:)]

LDC, I agree. This season Howson will be talked about by the national media. He and RB had time to bed in, both will be considerably better after pre-season and no question Howson will be that shining light. I agree with your idea of his valuation of close to 6 million, his ability and drive will see him reach a very high level in football and lets get some great years out of him.You can understand interest for players like Howson who have so many more years to improve on their already outstanding skills. Lets keep Howson injury free and he will have an unbelievable season.
