Dean Coneys boots 1,531 Posted May 31, 2012 Not pretending I am not upset but I do wonder if this might be a good time for him to go for us. 1) Most managers move once things turn bad. Just say- and obviously we will never know- that PL had indeed gone as far as he could anbd ridden his luck then we might have been hunting a manager in January whilst stuck at the foot of the table. Instead we get to recruit at a time when we look very attractive. Maybe a more established name will attract the next calibre we need to truly kick on... 2) His departure ensures the club and not Lambert become the focus of progress. If a good replacement is found who keeps us up then we stop being dependent on one man and start to stabilise at a new level. 3) The money we should get from his departure will pay for at least one decent young player - and I think we need six or seven to really do something this seasonHowever I do worry that Holt may have held off in order to follow him and that we could be left with a rudderless young squad. What Lambert had was authority and we will need a good man in. Anyone else think this feels very much like the whole Mike Walker debacle. Big risk from PL as it could EASILY go wrong at a dysfunctional Villa and he could end up on a scrap heap like Walker did. Had Lambert stayed he might have pipped Walker to best manager but the UEFA run and 3rd remains the accolade.

norfolkchance1 0 Posted May 31, 2012 Not only does it feel like when Walker left it also feels like when O''Neill left somehow.
GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 2,035 Posted May 31, 2012 If Lambert think he''s taken this sqaud as far as he can, then would you want a manager who has that attitute anyway??.Lambert may have used us as a stepping stone but maybe we''ve used him as one too??.We needed him to take us from League One to the Premiership ,now lets get someone that CAN take us on !! Officer Tillys small Willies (Nigel, lappy) 0 Posted May 31, 2012 if Lambert has talks with villa but then turns them down do we really need him walking out in january during a tough campain and we could also be fighting for survival.
morty 0 Posted May 31, 2012 If he turns them down why does it follow that he''ll walk out on us?Could we maybe credit him with a bit of integrity? He''s not stupid, he won''t go to Villa unless he''s 100% he can make a success of it, because if he goes there and makes a hash of it, it won''t look good on his CV.
