nutty nigel 7,509 Posted May 13, 2012 They would Slim! And some of those seasons where we didn''t have a real goal scorer were good uns! Notably 88/89 when we were still on for the double at Easter and finished 4th. Fleck top scored with 10 followed by Allen, Gordon and Townsend with 5 each. K Lo 221 Posted May 14, 2012 I never realised that Sutton scored so many! Good to see Fashanu & Drinkell up there. Two of my favourites from when I was just a lad !
Gerry Harrison 2 Posted May 14, 2012 Don''t foget all bar Hucks and Holt would have been for a 38 game season, with the rest for a 42 game season.
Gerry Harrison 2 Posted May 14, 2012 Sorry I meant Ashton/Francis/McKenzie, not Hucks!

norfolkbroadslim 223 Posted May 14, 2012 The 86/87 season was the last season in the top flight with 42 games. The bottom 3 were relegated and there was a promotion/relegation playoff between 4th bottom in Div 1 and the 3rd - 5th placed teams in Div 2. 3 teams were relegated and 2 were promoted this season, reducing the number of top flight teams 21. The 87/88 season had 40 games. Relegation/promotion playoffs were in the same format as the year before. 4 teams were relegated and 3 were promoted this season, reducing the number of top flight teams to 20. For 3 seasons from the 88/89 season to the 90/91 season there were 38 games a season. In the 88/89 season Sheff Weds got relegated on 43 points! In 91/92 the First Division reverted back to a 22 team top flight. At the end of the 90/91 season 2 clubs were relegated and 4 promoted. 22 teams remained in the top flight until 94/95 which was the last season with 22 teams, when 4 were relegated (including us[:''(]) and 2 were promoted. * A bit of a quirky anomaly, in the 93/94 season we finished 12th and we only managed to win 4 home games all season![:O] All the more remarkable considering it was a 42 game season!
