N city till I die 0 Posted May 16, 2012 Can Parker, Barry and Gerrard play in the midfield three together?
Indy_Bones 444 Posted May 16, 2012 Possibly, but let''s hope to god that it''s not Lampard, Gerrard and Barry together...

AJ 1,358 Posted May 16, 2012 What a boring, uninspiring midfield. We''re going to miss Scott Parker, he was some kind of revolution in the midfield
Aggy 944 Posted May 16, 2012 I wouldn''t have Barry anywhere near the setup. Not dynamic enough. If you haven''t got someone like Yaya Toure playing next to him, then he''s a liability. If you can get Gerrard to sit in and play as an orthodox central midfielder alongside Parker (how is his injury?), then I think that could work, with Lampard (or Rooney) playing off the front man. Central midfield is the biggest worry for me out there though. Even when Wilshere comes back, it''s about the only position where we''ve not got many options from "the next generation" to come in any time soon. Hopefully the likes of Rodwell can push on and stake a claim for a place soonish.
blahblahblah 2 Posted May 16, 2012 I can''t remember a single England match where lampard and gerrard have played well in the same team. This, on top of taking terry over Ferdinand, and of course Carroll over holt, leave serious cause for concern. With that said, if England fluke a couple of group wins, and win the quarter final, then the campaign will be considered a success. Some of the main reasons for englands world cup failure will be in the squad though. For Hodgson, a clean sweep and an under 25 squad would have been a safer option, in my opinion. ZLF 334 Posted May 16, 2012
What a boring, uninspiring midfield.
Agreed - Barry Gerrard Milner Lampard Parker - is just frightenining staid. And how does downing get in ahead of Aaron lennon???
Aggy 944 Posted May 16, 2012 Blahblahblah - they don''t normally play well together, agreed. They''re too similar really. I read an article on skysports news website recently where some ex-Liverpool player (can''t remember who now) was saying that over the next year or so Gerrard is probably going to have to become more of a sitting holding midfielder, as he can''t burst as much as he used to. If we could get Gerrard playing that role, then I think he and Lampard could work, but whether Hodgson can get that to be so is a different matter entirely. The one possible saving grace about the central midfield, however "boring" I agree it is, is that if we''re playing the 451/433 formation, then boring isn''t always a bad thing for those players, if they win the ball back and get it out wide. I''d much rather have seen a fit Wilshere and/or Carrick in there though to at least add a bit more of a passing and creative influence amongst them.
Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted May 17, 2012 If Lampard plays in the same deeper role he''s been playing for Chelsea recently it could work in a 3 with Gerrard playing off a striker.I personally would have had Carrick in the squad, the 1 player that can keep the ball.
