Could you see Norwich having a black manager within the next 20 years?

Recommended Posts

Just read an article listing 11 managers that could succeed Lambert if he were to leave us.

One of those was Chris Powell, which got me thinking - that would be Norwich''s first Black manager, right?

I don''t know what perception the club has outside of East Anglia - I would imagine that we''re seen as a middle class bunch of racist imbreds?

Mark Bright doesn''t seem too keen on us and tried tarnishing us with the racist brush, and obviously we had the supporter giving Vaughan some grief because of his skin when he signed (Which made headlines).

However, there seems to be an increase in successful black managers in recent years, and as we''re a club looking to get managers on the way up, the chances are increasing.

Personally don''t have an issue with it... However, i could understand the difficulties involved. So with that in mind i just can''t see it happening for a LONG time... if ever!!

Wondered what everyone elses thoughts are, especially those who live in the City. (I''m out in the sticks).

What are the difficulties you foresee? And what has someone''s colour got to do with their ability to manage a football team?

Considering the number of black players it doesn''t seem to be a natural career progression.

Same as ex footballers don''t ever have the desire to become referees which I''ve always found slightly odd.

Perhaps we could start with a manager who is a quarter black and then work our way up from there

Wow.....just wow.

See, this is the sort of stuff I mean when I say Norfolk is definitely a bit ''backwards'' when it comes to ''this'' subject! As Morty says, how can you possibly say there are going to be problems? ridiculous!

On the subject of Powell, a magnificent season at Charlton, definitely a candidate for us, but might be too soon for him

In the next 20 years I want the best candidate available to get the managerial position at Norwich City whenever it becomes available. Everything else is completely irrelevant.

I remember watching a programme, can''t remember the precise details but I think it was about a rugby player and the interviewer asked him something along the lines of are you proud to be the first black England captain to which the player took offence to and said he didn''t see the relevance of his skin colour and being the first black captain should not really be looked at as an achievement.

I am certainly not saying that such things shouldn''t be discussed far from it, there are ways that you just don''t go about it and skijump, you''ve missed by a mile.

[:D]

Or we could black up a whitey  like a dodgy 70''s comedy,Ain''t Half Hot Mum style.

Personally, couldn''t care what colour the manager is,so long as he is good. But the record isn''t very good, and it isn''t getting better.

In the real world this is not an issue,  managers come in all shapes and sizes, different nationalities etc etc.     If there are people out there for whom this is an issue then it is a reflection on them as individuals - not the club.  I would have hoped that being a progressive club we would embrace any manager on the strength of their ability not the colour of their skin.   I would hope that all of us as Norwich fans would accept this.

Good to see the sensible replies, i''m in total agreement with what you''re saying and think the best man for the job should get the job.

However.... I just can''t see it happening, regardless.

You haven''t explained the difficulties you mention in your first post. What on Earth do you think those "difficulties" would be?

Truly cringeworthy post TBH

This.  Times a thousand.

What the hell difference does it make?  I am sure the OP meant no harm but you have just highlighted your own intellectual immaturity.  Well done.

A colleague of mine yesterday was talking to a customer on the phone who''s first name was Kibuki. His comment to me was "what type do you think she is?" He is an intelligent man and it was a serious question from him.  It was so wrong it made me laugh which confused him.

I am no fan of the ultra PC world we live in.  Chalkboard not blackboard, Baa baa black sheep a thing of the past.  I grew up reading the stories about Little Black Sambo and the Robertsons Gollywog.  None of those things are racist, just the people who perceive them to be.  Everytime the PC brigade pull out another crackerjack I despair but there is always something said that makes me realise that is why this stupidity exists.  This was todays reminder.

Sorry to appear all Militant here, it''s really not like me at all.  But I truly believe that all racism can be judged by intent.  If you intend it to be tongue in cheek or a joke then it is not racist, if you intend it to aggravate or offend.....it is.  My colleague isn''t racist, just naive.

Again, I apologise for going on and on. I''ve over-complicated an innocent post from the OP - Sorry everyone....

Good to see you posting Muddy[Y]

Now what do you people reckon about us getting a woman football manager? Shouldn''t be a problem should it? There are lineswomen so we will soon have lady refs. There are lady physios. According to some on here we are awash with lady fans. And of course we are owned by a "giggly cook".

I think our very own Joan Bond or Michelle Walker could be just around the corner...

" Everytime the PC brigade"Yes, the PC obsessives are everywhereHedgehog flavoured cucumbers, winterful conker fightsyou name it, there''s a media outlet to make it up for them my uncle''s neighbour was prattling on last month about how ''that there political correctness'' had caused the hosepipe banone step up from having everything blamed on Eurasia or Oceana, I suppose - and less offensive than blaming Jews as done previously

I try not to criticise other posters but could you please clarify that statement? It seems to me that are accusing Norwich City of institutional racism. I sincerely hope I am mistaken.
How is he racist Morty? He is just asking whether it would be a problem.
The whole tone of it smacks of 20 year old attitudes, and very much epitomises the narrow minded views that it would appear are still alive and kicking in rural Norfolk. Its embarrassing.
