Drazen Muzinic 1,316 Posted April 17, 2012 Decent piece on Lambert...http://www.wsc.co.uk/content/view/8508/38/...and a great clip of how we used to just accept pitch invasions as part of watching football.No-one batted an eyelid at the Wednesday fan as he stole into the Norwich box!He would probably be deported and/or banned from attending matches for multiple lifetimes nowadays.http://www.wsc.co.uk/content/view/8516/38/
shefcanary 1,405 Posted April 17, 2012 I was at Hillsborough for that match. Wednesday fans were peeved that we were ahead of them in the league before the game, this being the last game of the season they could not get promotion from the old 2nd Division but we could. When they scored the second, it looked like we would not get promotion ourselves if I remember rightly because elsewhere Leicester looked like winning and thus would pip us for third spot. Thus the Wednesday fans were so keen to invade the pitch and give us some stick. But then moments later Leicester lost their lead and we were promoted. For quite a while it looked like it might get nasty as the Owls fans on the pitch charged us and some of our fans were keen to mix it. Eventually the Police regained control and the pitch and we were able to party. That was my second visit to Sheffield following an UCCA visit ealrier in the year, and less than four months later I returned to go to University and have remained ever since. Given the experience that day some could say quite bonkers. At the time I couldn''t beleive the ref allowed the goal to stand given the presence of the fan so close to the action - if the Wednesday player hadn''t scored would the fan himself? It didn''t matter in the end but if it happened nowadays that incident could cost a club potentially £90 million - not sure it would be neglected by the press as it was at the time! The Young One 0 Posted April 17, 2012 Jesus, I can remember being there as well, the scenes at the end were fantastic when news about leicester came through, got the train back and a brick got chucked by a Wednesday fan at the train which broke the window, they were all lined up on the grass at a large park of some sorts to take pops at the departing trains. What fun it was in the late 70''s and 80''s.It had to end with violence getting out of control, now the fans are controlled it does make football soul less but still worth watching etc.

Was still a memorable day, didn''t we take 15,000? I also ended up going to University and spending 7 years there, but no longer live there. Still fond of the place though but the Blades are definately the proper Sheffield team and hope they go up and not the piggies.
