I''m not saying older people shouldn''t or don''t wear the shirt, I am saying that perhaps it''s the younger ones who feel the most pressurised to have the latest one!
That''s what I think. You old-timers have little idea the pressure us younsters are under. Billabong 0 Posted April 19, 2012 Okay, it''s a fair comment - If we don''t change every 12 months, we would be at a disadvantage to other clubs. Why not get ahead of the game then and change the shirts every 6 months? [a summer shirt and a winter shirt] times that by 3 home/away/spare and we have 6 shirts a season and a nice big profit! We would be bigger than the big clubs - we would be huuumungous!!! pete_norw 0 Posted April 19, 2012 You could also do what I do and that is have a Birthday and Christmas wish list, and let the family club together and give you the money to buy what it is on your list, It works every time, so I get the new shirt on Birthday and away shirt on Christmas, and what else the family get from the Norwich shop
Andy Larkin 15 Posted April 19, 2012
I''ve got more of a beef with the telephone queue system for tickets. At least if you pay £50 for a shirt you get it. Yet you can spend a lot of money on the phone ringing up and not even getting in the queue - let alone getting tickets. Why not just have an engaged tone if people can''t get through to the queue. With the shirt people can choose to buy one if they want - I personally nowadays don''t.
Yup, gets on my bleedin'' wick this one does ^ [:@]
crabbycanary 2 Posted April 19, 2012 People spend a lot more on the latest Playstation/XBox etc, gadgets and games, on a more regular basis me thinks? It''s getting things in perspective. We associate Prem football with millions of pounds, but no one seems to say anything about the millions involved in the likes of Playstation etc It is personal choice, there will always be peer pressure, the best thing is not to bow to it, get the shirt if you want/afford it, no problems. Shaun Tilly Lace 0 Posted April 19, 2012 Spot on, OP. McNally was quoted in the EDP talking about the new kit. He muttered something along the lines of that some fans might object to a kit change every year from a financial point of view. I should think that would be the ONLY reason for an objection to such a policy, but then again when you''re on £500k to £1 million a year (DM) you probably walk around with a grand or two in your wallet, so £50 for a shirt is just loose change. How the other half live! Anyway, I urge all those who think this blatant commercialism stinks to resist the temptation to fork out yet again. Retro replica shirts are not a bad idea - a 1959, or whatever vintage, shirt looks quite hip, and you can wear them each new season without looking passe! Hairy Canary 702 Posted April 19, 2012 I buy a shirt every couple of years - for me thats often enough. As it happens I''m getting the latest one which I''m looking forward to. Whats wrong with doing that if you think a new shirt every year is too often?
fire3822 0 Posted April 19, 2012 It''s alright saying you don''t need to buy the latest kit, which I don''t for myself but do buy some of the training gear & fashion items ( if indeed it is) but when I come to Carrow Road with two of my youngest sons they like to have the latest replica shirt as all their friends have their respective teams latest colours & there is a lot of peer pressure.Yes of course nobody is forcing me to pay a lot of money for essentially a cheaply made football top which is too cold to wear on it''s own most of the year but it''s a cynical move by not just Norwich but most teams to put out new designs on a ridiculously frequent basis as they know the kids want the latest design.I came to Norwich to see us against Parma & left the shop nearly £250 lighter with the boys ''essentials'' & could easily have spent double that if I agreed to everything.I would never say no to them having the latest shirt as I remember the feeling of pride when putting on my first Norwich shirt that my dad bought me in 1976 & showing it off to my friends who all supported Spurs,Arsenal,Chelsea etc at the time.I look at the stuff & think it''s a load of tat but I never say that to my son''s.It''s not so much the cost of each shirt but the frequency of change. It''s all about money these days & I reckon that Mr McNally would sell his own mother if he could spray her yellow & green. henrik 0 Posted April 19, 2012 Am I the only one that thinks £45-£50 every 12 months (just over 4 quid a month) isn''t that bad? Perhaps the club should let people tag their new kit purchase automatically on their monthly installments for season tickets? And, for all those saying "but when you have an army of kids". 1) stand up to your kids if you can''t afford it, i was 18 before I owned my first shirt despite being a season ticket holder for most of my childhood. Mum and Dad couldn''t justify and fair enough i was just greatful to be taken to the football, and 2) think yourself lucky football is your family hobby and not motor racing or horse riding etc!Buy it if you want it/can afford it, don''t if you don''t/can''t afford it, but coming on here using it as an excuse to bash the club once again is pointless and irrritating i think
militantcanary 0 Posted April 19, 2012 I object to it because its a major sign that the Club is losing empathy with the fans, we will do it, renew the kit every year that is because everyone else is doing it is a seriously poor argument Mr McNally. In fact he is saying that as all big clubs piss their fans off we need to do as well. Being Norwich makes us better than Man U with their prawn sandwich brigade and glory hunters, don''t try to make us like them.Especially when there is no real difference to last year apart from the collar. We couldn''t even get a decent Kit manufactuer like Nike or Addidas. This and the treatment of the kit leaker make us look like a club with no sense of humour, arrogant and money grabbers, was that the idea? Clint 221 Posted April 19, 2012 Why do we always have something to moan about, if it''s not the overpriced tickets and beers, it''s now the car parking (another thread) and the change of kits.If you want the new kit bad enough, you could always try and save some money. This was always the traditional way before we lived in a society where people live the life of riley and have everything they want now, without actually having the money to do so thanks to the previously over generous lending policies of our banks. The new shirt is £45 and the new season is, lets say 15 weeks away, that''s £3 a week to save between now and then. That''s if you have to have it by the first match. As a poster previously said, you could get it for a birthday or Xmas present. If you have kids and they want it, why can''t they have it as birthday or Xmas present or save their pocket money? You don''t have to have it NOW!It seems we simply have a society of moaners. If there''s nothing to complain about on the pitch, lets moan about the club now trying to fleece us at every opportunity.

Rupethebear 7 Posted April 20, 2012 I can understand the shirt being changed every year, this may be influenced by our shirt sponsorship deal. Aviva is a global brand and perhaps they don''t want their logo on a 2 year old shirt? However just got my Arsenal ticket and for £35 I''ve got a seat in the best stadium in Europe so not sure why we charge £45 for casual seats for many games. In addition our buy back needs updating, too heavily waited in the club''s favour and great for their cash flow so hardly a surprise many don''t bother. The big paymaster is sky so think the club could be more mindful of its customers'' feelings. pete_norw 0 Posted April 20, 2012 Ok tin hat on now, We were all informed that the Premier league demands much more than the rest of the FL everyone wants us to be in this league for ever more, we all want a stadium that can seat 35000+ fans we all want world class players to come here, Do the fans think we can run on a shoe string and still get what we want, I''m no millionare but I''m no pauper either, People have many valid reasons for finding it hard to raise the said price of a shirt or ticket, but we can also plan a football budget, its all a question of what is more important, in my case I have given up the booze in the week, that money now pays my Direct Debit, I haven''t smoked for years. I don''t see how its a problem to some people to think that the club are fleecing the fans, They are not knocking on the door with a gun saying buy buy, some people need to live a bit, everything in life has a price and if you want it you budget for it. No I do not make extra funds from my Ponies

Shankslad 0 Posted April 20, 2012 Well it certainly beats me why some people think it essential to have "This Seasons" shirts. But that''s the way of the world now. Children want trainers these days. but not just ANY trainers - they MUST be the RIGHT trainers!!! And that seems to be instilled into the way of things. My simple logic says Norwich city wear yellow so therefore any yellow shirt will do, surely? The first rule of selling is to create the need and boy, over the years that seems to have been done very well. If people have the money and want to keep up to date with their footballing fashion - fantastic. The club benefits financially and the punter is happily posing in his new just the same but ever so slighly different but more expensive new strip. ME? I''ll just wave a yella duster - cost 99p for four in QD!!!
