Looks like Woy for England

Recommended Posts

I think Roy is pretty open minded.

At Fulham he played Zamora up front.

And if rumours were more than just rumours over last summer and possibly January, he was at least looking at Holt as a possible signing for West Brom.

What other people appear to have failed to say is how this may be good for us in terms of West Brom were struggling prior to his appointment, it could be that if he is offered the job and takes it they could struggle once again next season.

difficult to know what type of player Hodgson will pick. If was Redknapps it would be the old pals act of Lampard,Crouch,Defoe,Lennon etc etc, if it was Stuart Pearce it would be bias towards his U21 players , Welbeck,Sturridge.............   I think its pretty much a clean slate now ?!?!?...maybe a chance for Holt...............but it doesnt help his cause sitting on our bench with 3 games to go (but thats a different matter!!)

Quite like Roy Hodgson. Seems a decent guy. Why on earth would he want to work with this bunch of fools over the summer?   The term ''poisoned chalice'' never seemed more appropriate.

He''s coming up to 65 so it''ll be a good way to go out either way.Somehow Harry Redknapp didn''t seem that keen on the job and that must have influenced the FA. He ssems to like the day-to-day involvement at club level which you just don''t get in the international game.

I must admit to being quite self satisfied at the moment. Ever since Capello resigned I''ve been telling people that Roy Hodgson would be my first choice, if I had to pick an English coach. Hodgson has a great history of taking mediocre players and making decent teams (and frankly all I want is a decent England team at this point). His football is possession based, but so simple, that even English players should be able to handle it. Throw in his ability to organise the midfield and defence into a solid unit, and we can expect, at the very least, defensive competence from England. As to Holt''s chances... they''re pretty good. Hodgson has always been a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 kind of manager, and will want a center forward to hold the ball up who has the ability to bring others into play as well as make himself a goal scoring threat (and that''s Holty all over). Hodgson system also relies on players working exceedingly hard for each other. So as long as he shows some guts, sticks to his principles and selects players with ability and a great work ethic, I don''t think he can ignore Holt.
Interestingly, the link provided by the OP gives a comment by Graham Taylor that in his opinion, the FA want exactly that - someone who''ll bring a day-to-day, hands-on, club approach to the England manager''s job.

I agree Holt will have a better chance of a call up under RH. IMO he''ll want to do it his way and not copy n'' paste the usual suspects. I only reservation I do have if RH wants to use the centre-forward  hold the ball up tactic, he may choose Crouch over Holt.

I like Harry Redknapp but I suspect the England team would become a who you know ''in-crowd'' if he took over... not unlike the Venebles tenure.Hodgson is another great man manager though and true to the FA''s safety first mentality he would be their ideal man for the job. Maybe we should look to be entertained more by the team than the jovial character managing it?

See statement on FA web-site

Can''t see Holty appealing to him.

Well done, shefcanary, I did indeed see the statement on the FA website -- I also spotted the following thread just a couple of places below this fresh one you''ve unnecessarily started.

Tw@t.

I know that, GP, I was merely testing to see if the OP noticed.
