Simeon Jackson

Recommended Posts

Interested in how people feel regarding jackson, for me he constantly looks lively but i fear he just isnt good enough at this level. I know he hasnt always started & alot of his appearences have been as a sub but only 2 goals so far in the league in 18/19 games. Not trying to slate him or anything just a personal opinion. Hopefully he proves me wrong and finishes this season like the last one!

Can''t fault his effort, workrate etc but I agree he''s a little short for this level in the long run but you have to remember our rapid rise. Think his first touch lets him down a little and is not quite a clinical enough finisher. If we stay in this league for a little while I believe we will slowly replace players like Sim but until such time I''ll always get behind him as he will never give anything but 100%

I think that Jackson can make a great contribution, such as for Holt''s goal against Wolves. The only trouble is that he is supposed to be a striker, and his shot is light-weight and inaccurate. The same could be said about Morison. He has contributed to goals scored but, apart from headers, doesn''t find the net very often. Morison started the season well, but perhaps was set back by his injury, and has seemed something of a pale reflection  of himself recently.

We need someone who make lack pace (-Holty is not overquick), but who can hit the ball hard into the top corners consistently. I had hoped that Howson would make a contribution, but so far he is not getting them on target!

jacko is a decent player but has a couple of bad habits. when on goal he will never pass to a player in a much better position and when chasing a through ball, if an opponent gets in front of him he will always push him in the back and give away a free kick.

I really like Cinnamon. At least he has good pace and always creates havoc at opposing defences.

Once again his appearance yesterday changed the concept of the game.

I''m sure he will continue to improve next year. Whether he gets many opportunities depends on who we sign for next season.

I''d have him in the line-up 9 times out of 10 at the moment, purely because of his pace & work-rate but in the long-term I don''t think he has enough composure.

He has made great improvements over the last 18 months, particularly his link-up players & running of the channels but I''m sure Lambert will be looking to bring in another striker or two & with Vaughan to come back (fingers crossed) he''s going to fall down the pecking order.

Take away the pace and direct threat that Jackson and Elliott Bennett bring to our game and you end up with the predictable one dimensional performance that we got in the first half yesterday.Jackson offers our team/squad far more than just goals at the moment.I would still like to see another striker added to our options in the summer. I can''t ever see us getting a full season out of Vaughan I am afraid and how long can Holt continue to show the level of form that he has done for most of this season?

S Jackson offers pace, not lightning pace for the Premiership, but he offers pace which our other forwards don''t. Unfortunately we do not play to that as a strength. he wants through balls when he is on the shoulder of the defender.I do not think he is the answer and certainly will go further down the pecking order after the Summer, I cannot see how he is suddnely going to become a better striker, which means second striker in a premiership team. We are looking for the strike partner for Grant Holt. I don''t think he would be a massive star at a champ team.He has the energy, desire but in regard to what Strikers are noted upon he has a poor return this and last season.Again he is a good player but it is our meteoric rise that has left some players behind. We now are looking at better standards of players and that means if you don''t improve year on year you will become a squad player. At the mo he is a squad player but with Vaughan out and Morison in and out, he is playing more games. Which is great and I want him to do well, but is he the answer? No, not at all.I agree at the moment he offers something that none of our forwards can, pace. But we are not using it to damage teams and again that is disappointing. We need another striker in the Summer and if Wilby and Martin leave we may need a second one, you can never have too many strikers.

Smooth what you appear to miss when I talk about the pace of Jackson and Elliott Bennett is the impact that having them on the pitch has upon our whole team. Pace is not just an attacking threat, but it also helps our defenders and midfielders, giving them more time on the ball too and allowing us to defend as a unit higher up the pitch. When we are left with no pace on the pitch then the opposition immediately moves another 10 or 20 yards up the pitch as a unit. They then start to put our fragile midfield/defence under serious pressure and we are unable to cope with it. We have no real outlet, apart from a long ball up to Morison or Holt which 9 times out of 10 is immediately returned with interest. Our midfield also stroke the ball about having plenty of possession but with very little ideas or cutting edge. When we have no pace on the pitch we are far too predictable in my opinion.

The Gruffalo, I totally agree about the team having pace. I think I always comment on the need for pacey wingers, pace at centre half, fullback and in our striking department. For all the reasons you raise above, I am an advocate of the 4-4-2.I agree with your opinion of being pedestiran in a league where you need pace, In recent games we have not move the ball quick enough to our ''pacey players''. But I don''t think we have really rapid players, Naughton maybe standing out.But in regard to Simeon Jackson, he has pace, not genuinely blistering pace and my thoughts are in regard to playing to a players strengths. Jackson covers ground but we do not put him through one on one with the keeper etc as much as we should do and use his pace for more than what he is currently doing. The fact that Jackson has never had a really long stint in the first team even after his performances in the last few games in April and May 2011 speaks volumes to me. We have moved on so quickly that although Jackson, for me, is to be left behind. But I agree with your opinion that the lack of pace make us terribly predictable and inept as an attacking force as we have seen in recent games.

I would pick him every week for his pace and movement up front, particularly getting into the channels. His finishing is letting him down and he is another who seems a bit short of confidence right now

+1

Excellent post with some pace upfront you get more midfield goals as you can shoot more from distance given the defenders hold deeper.

Jackson has pace but not great pace or he power that means once infront you cannot get back again.

Just look at yesterday when the ball was in their midfield it surged Dembele (pace) and dempsey (drive) ment they looked more dangerous on the counter.

Howson looks good but is a little slower/less powerful than I expected for that role given he is not a dribbler.
He''s not good enough for this level but were so short up front atm that he''s atually pretty important for us atm.
I am sick of hearing people say that our players are "not good enough for this level". I have heard it about almost every single player in the squad this season. If that''s the case, why are we staying at this level?? Our squad for this season has clearly been good enough.

I think buying James Vaughan in summer was suppose to be the replacement for Jackson - although we always seem to be better attacking with Jackson than without him. He is good at getting into the channels and causing problems. He hasn''t had a great amount of goals this season, but he has help in creating more than a few.

I can''t see any reason for people to be getting on his back at the moment.

I don''t think that''s a very fair or accurate assessment at all.

Jackson is a very selfless player who often looks to play in someone else. There was a recent home game (Wigan or Wolves) when he took the wrong decision to take on a couple of shots he shouldn''t have done but I don''t think that''s generally his style. In general he''s a hard working player who tries to link up play as best he can.

I''m also happy to see him giving a defender a bit of a shove. Infact, putting Roger Johnson on his backside was a highlight of the Wolves game for me. Let them know you''re there, get them wound up, let them know they''re not going to have it easy. There''s a huge difference between that and giving away a silly freekick.
Paul Lambert doesn''t do "replacements". He brings players in to strengthen the squad, add new options and compete for places. I''m sure "replacing" Jackson was the last thing on Lambert''s mind when he bought James Vaughan. And quite right too.
