[/quote]yes.for it to Happen the 2 FA cup finalists both have to be in the champions league positions.. unfortunately unless Everton end the season on a stomer i cant see it happening!basically if 2 CL qualifying sides reach the cup final (Or the league cup winners reach the final) their european spot is given to the team that finishes in 6th place. Liverpool to reach the final would be the best possible outcome for us, but its more than likely to do Everton the favour!
Jonnyboy 0 Posted April 10, 2012 If the league ends now we are in 10th, so no.Realistically with some of the games we have remaining I think 7th is ambitious. If we stay top half I''ll be happy as I put £10 at 20-1 us finishing in the top half
Bill 1,788 Posted April 10, 2012 " I think 7th is ambitious" Nothing wrong with ambition !However, jokes aside, as you say realistically looking at Everton''s four point lead, 7th will require Everton to slip - as much as it requires us to keep up the pressure. What should now be understood though is that this ''ever so umble'' 17th spot nonsense has never been part of the clubs agenda, if it ever were then we would have shut up shop at Spurs and tried to play out the draw. The club are going at it all guns blazing. They know the value of the prize money and the need for the players to keep a winning mentality.Had we have beaten Everton on Saturday, which was quite possible, given the performance, we would now be sat in 7th spot (on points alone). No one thought we could overhaul Charlton and Leeds in 09/10. Many thought we wouldn''t make the playoffs, let alone automatic promotion in 10/11. So why not 7th place ?The club, squad, team etc have not fought this hard and played so well so ease up now would be farcical - and certainly not in the mindset of McNally or Lambert.Realistically there are now 8 or 9 places than we can finish in. From Everton (7th) to Swansea/Villa (14/15th). We are currently third in that group. I have no doubt at all the club is aiming for that 7th spot. So lets get the fans having the same target. Forget the guff about relegation, we were never in the bottom three or ever looked likely to be. If it was Champions in 2010, automatic promotion in 2011, then it must be a possible Europa place in 2012Hopefully the fans can back the club and meet the ambition of the board. HerefordCanary 0 Posted April 10, 2012 I read somewhere recently that if Chelsea somehow overcome Barca and then go on to win the Champions League then UEFA may let Chelsea take the last english Champions League place therefore knocking the fourth placed team into the Europa League, this may have been read in a gossip column though so don''t hold me to it.How are we looking in the fair play league? Now it''s a max of 4, so if Chelsea win it 4th place will miss out on champions league and get UEFA instead. But i do not see Chelsea turning over Barca and Real
