Rustyboy 2 Posted April 13, 2012 Having supported Norwich for more years than some of your ages on here I cannot remember a time when we could change a team around so much without fielding a weaker side.We only use to have one good striker such as Roberts, Dublin, Ashton, etc and when these were injured we were a far weakened side.Well done to everyone at the club, being able to do this is why we are in the position we are now. Kirby_86 0 Posted April 13, 2012 Good, positive post.My first NCFC game was in 95'' v Tranmere, this is certainly the best squad we have had in all my years of support. Our worst ever squad was only 3 years back! This just goes to show the fantastic work of Lambert and many others.[:D]
Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted April 14, 2012 Considering this is going to be our highest league finish since 1994 (18 years), thats hardly a bold statement.I do however agree about the strength in depth, we''ve not got any stars but any 1 of about 20 players can feature & I have no worries about it affecting the performance. At Spurs we could have put out, just about a wholly different 11, and not be any weaker.RuddNaughton, Ayala, Whitbread, TierneyCrofts, Fox, Surman, HoolahanJackson, MorisonThe varied nature of the squad & the different attributes allows us flexibility in formation & game-plan depending on the opposition & situation. It also keeps them guessing & the rotation means players aren''t flogged into the ground, despite the intense work-rate.
Norfolk Mustard 106 Posted April 14, 2012 Good post Rustyboy!A lot of people in football traipse out clichés like ‘having strength in depth’ on a regular basis, but what does that really mean? Not a great deal in many cases it would seem. Despite having an array of talent many first team squads continually under-perform. I cite Liverpool as an example; a £35m striker and supposedly world-class players all over the place and now we see Norwich almost catching them with points achieved. Not exactly getting a great return-on-investment up there on Merseyside are they? What we currently have at Norwich is balance, harmony, ability, spirit and a genuine willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Not just players, but support staff too. It’s all funnelled through a management team who simplify what is expected – which in turn creates an air of positive expectation in a relaxed, but mentally focussed manner. You’re right about us having enough talent to mix-and-match – so much so, we could practically field two equally strong first teams these days. Almost an embarrassment of riches.Considering where we’ve been for the last umpteen years, these are great times and I for one intend to appreciate every second of it!
