We are the new Blackpool

Recommended Posts

Was the relentless squeak from the usual ragbag of whingers and whiners throughout January. Endlessly pointing out that on 21 games Blackpool also had 28 points as us.Curiously (or not) these whingers and whiners seem to have disappeared of late. No comment of how after 25 games we have 35 points, as opposed to Blackpools 28 points the prvious season. No comment of how we are 14 points clear of 18th place, whereas last season Blackpool were 2 points clear of 18th place. No comment either of how that constant higher level of points from the bottom three lead to the mythical 40 point figure being constantly put up as some kind of target. Neither have I seen any comment of how in the second half of the season, when we were supposed to enter into some kind of Blackpool style collapse, we have actually picked up 13 points out of 18. Which, were it to be over a season would have us finishing in the top three. There is still the occasional bleat from the now almost silenced ever so ''umble fringe whose most recent wish is that we don''t do anything until we are mathematically safe - then perhaps try and win a few games to see if we can finish a few places higher. But we do still have dire warnings from the whingers and whiners about the FA Cup. Injuries, relegation and the end of the world as we know it threaten if we continue with this most foolhardy of foolhardy ventures. Nevermind the £600,000 or more it has brought us so far (inc Leicester), never mind the extra £400,000 or more another win might bring us, we must concentrate on that all important 17th place they shreik.Meanwhile, those of the more optimistic (and I would suggest realistic) persuasion are enjoying the season and looking forward to trynig to take another step towards Wembley, followed by taking on one of the worlds biggest clubs at Carrow Road ..... then hell for leather to overhaul Liverpool and maybe a tilt at a European place. One massive and fantastic last third of a season coming up, with three new additions to help us in that push - Bennet, Howson and the returning Vaughan.Stuff that dreams are made of ....................so perhaps even the most ''umble forelock tugger might wish to stop wringing his flat cap and stick on a yellow and green bobble hat instead and join the rest of us in a season to remember''cos it ain''t over yet !

I also notice that we still get tagged with the ''couldn''t keep a clean sheet'' thing by some media luvvies even though we have kept two in recent games, Blackburn still haven''t got one all season and Wolves haven''t kept one since August.
You do realise your the biggest whinger on this forum :P
That may be true GP, but I suspect that this whinging is a reaction to the serious - or should I say - ''terminal'' - whinging that was going on earlier this season.    So much negative rubbish has been written about our chances that people like City 1st - and myself for that matter - and other more positive posters -   do feel vindicated that our "realism" has been proved correct.    We have competed, the players have risen to the occasion, the manager has carried on being a good manager - there is no surprise in this  - to some of us.

If City 1st feels he wants to have a go at the ''terminally dim'' or however you want to put them, I for one don''t blame him.   Some of us were shouted down for daring to say  17th place was not something we should  focus on.

"Trust" is something I think PL had earnt from the previous two seasons. We should have trusted that he would do the job again this season.

The trouble is that so many people had stars in their eyes about the premiership.  The "ooh, we''re little Norwich" mentality was still in evidence at the start of the season.   We had all the statisticians gearing the season to relegation, the defeatists saying one player after another was not up to the job.

We were always going to compete - and we have.   We have done better than most suspected.  We haven''t finished yet!   And it has gone quiet from the "we''re not good enough bandwagon".   I hope they have learnt to trust the manager and team now.

Great post LDC.

It wasn''t just Lambert that had earned our trust but Holty too. And yet at the start of that past two seasons we had posters saying he wasn''t up to it.

Even after the odd defeat, like the one at Sunderland, "the terminally dim" were so loud that Lambert heard them. And criticised them. It seems he''s got away with it and if he has it will be the first time for a long time that''s happened. But I rather suspect that if we had a bad run of results that criticism will be brought out from the back of the toy box and get chucked out of the pram with everything else.

You do realise your the biggest whinger on this forum :P"It is you''re, as in you are

ps there is also rather a big difference between pulling the pee and whingeing. I suspect you may be one of those the post was making fun of.  Can''t be much fun for you and others at the moment.

Let''s not forget all the folk insisting we needed players with "Premier League experience" during the summer. It''s likely we''d be paying highly inflated wages to people sitting in the bench now. It''s worked for the binners hasn''t it?

I think we need some fans with Premier League experience.  You can only go so far with fans from League One, particularly because most of them took us down into League One and were only kept on by the board because they didn''t want to spend the money on proven quality fans with a track record of keeping their team in the top flight.  We''ve been lucky up until now but sooner or later the bubble will burst and if you look at the quality of the supporter base on paper, we''re going to have our work cut out to finish 17th next season.

No, you''re wrong Mr C.   Our fans have now got some premiership experience, so we don''t need to get any others.  The premiership experience we now have will lead us to expect to be in the top three all next season and therefore will be calling for PL to be sacked when we are only challenging for 4th place.    On second thoughts, you could be right...........................
