Norwich are reported to be ready to bring Egyptian international Mohamed Shawky to The Premiership.

The youngster has established himself as a key figure for Egyptian side Al-Ahly, with his performances earning him international honours with the North African country.

Shawky has been pivotal in leading Al-Ahly on a 15-game unbeaten run and it would appear as if Canaries chief Nigel Worthington has been alerted to his talents.

The defensive-minded midfielder captained his country in their unsuccessful bid to reach the Olympics and it is being suggested he could well be ready to make the move to a bigger stage.

Egyptianplayers.com suggest Norwich are ready to test Al-Ahly''s resolve with a bid believed to be in the region of £1.2 million, an amount which is within Worthington''s transfer budget for January.

According to Egyptian newspapers, the Premiership club Norwich City are ready to spend €1.2 million on the talented Egyptian midfielder. However, it is said that his club Al-Ahly rejected the initial bid and asked for an extra €200,000.

Al-Ahly officials are currently waiting for Norwich''s final bid for the player, and if the English side accept Ahly''s demands, Shawky may travel to England on Thursday to finalise the deal.

Shawky has been on exceptional form this season, and should he go to Norwich, he will be joining Moroccan Youssef Safri, in the club''s midfield options.

It should be noted that Norwich City are currently fighting against relegation in the English Premiership as they have collected only 16 points from 21 games.

Wow - well don''t want to cast pessimism over this, especially if Worthy has uncovered a gem, but (you saw that one coming), surely we need a proven striker. It would be great to think that maybe we have a new Zidane in our midsts, but is it worth the gamble? The -supposed - whole budget on a youngster?
