The Dreaded Hanball Penalty (review)

Recommended Posts

Well i watched match of the day, which had been recorded for me.... And i awaited this bit and when it got to it, i didnt see it happen.... But thanx to match of the days replays i managed to get a pretty well detailed picture of what happened:

So the close up replay shows Mckenzie Jumpin using his arms for extra height to win the ball, by which he does so. Looks nothing wrong to me.....

Just to check, i rewind and play it in "slow mode". The ball comes down and DOES NOT appear to hit his arm before his head.

Again i rewind and play in slow mode.... This time i watch the ball. There is NO change in speed or direction of the ball before it hits Mckenzie''s Head.

Althought the Camera angle doesnt help, it is not extreemly clear, but to me it looks like Norwich were hard done by. The ref is at a funny angle to see, and in my opinion should have gone to ask the Linesman on the far side. The linesman himself probably coundn''t see.

And the retakes, surly there should be a yellow card for the offence being cause TWO times????????

And cant a free kick be awarded to norwich because of this? (wishful thinking i know!)

Anyway, hope what ive said helps your judgement. Anybody else seen, or was at the game near the incident?

On the ball!

Bring on liverpool!

There''s not really a decent camera angle on it but it looked like he palmed it on to his head in my opinion. Ref was in a good position and you have to abide by it. He was also right to show Eddy a red, Yakube should have walked as well.

They say it all evens itself out and you could say Man City should have had a penalty in our draw with them but it wasn''t given.

Also, Yakubu should have received a second yellow card for diving in our penalty area; if it had been the Huckster, the ref would have booked him straight away!

but hucks'' dives aren''t as bad as that. he just fell to a heap on the floor. definately deserved for him to get sent off.

Never mind whether or not the penalty was a handball; the worst decision of the day was disallowing Hucks goal when it there was a barely non-existnant 50/50 tussle between McKenzie and the defender.

Yeah, what was that decision all about?! And we all thought Div 1 ref''s were bad.

so yesterday leon cost us a goal and gave away a goal. not the best day for him. he''s a the most hard working player we''ve got but he''s not doing the business. if the formation stays the same, we will need to replace him for someone who can score.

please ashton!!

DD, like any small player, he uses his arms to gain extra height.

ITs very unclear from camera angles.

We should appeal for the red card as Eddy got the ball, and Francis goal was supurb!

What are you on m8. Eddy clearly didn''t get the ball as it didn''t change direction whatsoever. Here''s hoping Helveg''s ok for tomorrow then we may be a bit more organised at the back and have a bit more bite in the middle

Doesn''t look like Helveg''s going to make it so it should be Jonson for Eddy and possibly Brennan for Mullers.

i think McKenzie did nothing wrong on the Hux goal and did not handball it in the box, however i can see why the ref gave it as its very close. Eddy was rightly sent off but he could have saved us a goal in the process

It wasn''t a penalty!

The ref (who was useless and arrogant) failed to see the blatant push by the Portsmouth player on Leon that forced him into the ball. A point that Fleming argued.

Not sending off Yakubu was a joke too, he bottled it. If he doesn''t give a penalty, in essence agreeing that there was no contact, he must surely give Yakubu another yellow for diving? Pathetic refereeing. Edworthy''s sending off, although the laws of the game say it was correct, was very harsh. Common sense would have told him that it''s 5 mins into the game, it''s Edworthy''s first tackle, and the Portsmouth player has still got 40 yards to go with Charlton not far behind. It doesn''t matter that Camara is lightening quick, it should have been a yellow, and a warning that another tackle would mean Edworthy going off.
