I think we could do with improving in all areas. You go backwards if you stand still and rest on your laurels.

McGugan is unquestionably a talented player but there is a reason he isn''t a regular at Forest in the lower regions of the Championship.

He is incredibly inconsistent, he doesn''t conform to many formations and from what I saw of him in Nottingham is a big-time Charlie.

I think everyone would have taken him last year, however with his recent form I very much doubt it. 1.5 million for a player who has had one good season seems a bit pricey and is a gamble. Hes most likely to go to Leicester or a high Championship club rather than a Premier league team

Shooting people down when they say we need a defender. I think even though Lambert has ''said'' we won''t get a defender he may actually get one anyway and maybe ship one out. Let people have their say lad everyone is equal and everyone is just as right as each other. Unless you suddenly become Mystic Ben then we will trust your judgement of always being right.

Over rated, inconsistent, neither setting the world alight at nor even starting regularly for Forest and got attitude problems.

Not exactly what I''d consider a Lambert signing!

Can''t see PL going for him...not his kind of signing. I think he''s going to look for a midfielder and a striker, but not McGugan...hasn''t been consistent enough

Difficult one to call, JF. Like others have said, what I''ve seen of him is very mixed. On his day he looks superb, but at other times he''s been absolutely cr@p .

So, are we the sort of club whose finances allow to "take a punt" on people like Mc Gugan ? And, indeed, is he a Lambert type of player ? But, the flip side to that coin is that nearly all of Lambert''s signings have been a bit of a punt . He''s never really gone out and bought people who are absolutely proven at whatever level, has he? Most have been players who''d had chequered careers often at the lower level, and there was never any guarantee that people like Ward, Crofts, Fox, Morison etc would produce the goods . so, I guess it depends on whether PL feels he could get Mc Gugan''s attitude sorted. If so, I''m sure that at £1.5m he''d be an excellent signing.

But, despite what Ben says, I still believe he''ll be bringing in a defender or two during the window.

He certainly played well at times last season, but has he done much so far this time? There seems to be something wrong at Forest at the moment, and he seems to be a player subject to mood.

He has a reputation for inconsistency, and he certainly would provide something slightly different to what we have now. The question is whether PL feels that he can get the player to perform every week .

I wonder if that is the type of player we are interested in, for me a player who has confidence issues or cannot pick up his game when the chips are down is a player to avoid.

We can''t afford a player like that coming into the final half of this season. McGugan may not be like that and Lambert has got the best out of many, but I like his recent article where he highlights that he will not dismiss contacts in Europe and their opinions on players in other leagues.

So I won''t dismiss it but I think we need some driven to succeed types, those that don''t allow their heads to drop and want to achieve premiership football status with Lamberts ethos which allows you to play to your attributes and he will reward you by progressing your career through NCFC and hence wherever that may then lead. But no question he will want you to come into his ethos and he will make you progress as an individual, an ehtos taking the best out of the British and continental style of management. Hence players can come from overseas and feel a level of comfort and familiarity as well as our players gaining the experience of the continental style and hence a confidence that they could adapt if a move was to present itself to Europe.

These are all things a long way off, but I do believe that Lambert in this window will want those born winners who will not let their heads drop if things are not going well, if McGugan is one of those then this is not the window for him to come and join our squad it is too critical.

Not enough consistency for me. I think we can do better. What are people''s views on Lee Camp if we could snap him up on the cheap. Not a dig at Ruddy in any way. But would be great to have another experienced keeper to add competition for the jersey.

Always rated him, I suppose if we offered Dec in return on loan it would be beneficial for all parties.  But I am sure Forest would want to find time for a replacement and goalkeepers are tough to pick up. For me other positions are key this Jan. but I certainly would consider Camp back at Carrow Road, don''t think he would want to play second fiddle while he is playing int'' football

I mentioned the clubs in the championship with financial problems as a place to maybe pick up a handy bargain, started thinking of pompey etc. and many said well lets look at a Maynard/ Sharp but I am sure it would still be a good fee of 4 million ish, so I began to wonder if Nugent would like another crack at prem. football guessing a 4 million bid may be enough, any thoughts there jacko? We know he caused us all manner of problems and know he is a sharp player in the champs.

But I do like looking to Europe and using Lamberts connections who know him very well and hence a good judge of his character and any player they would suggest looking at.

Don''t think so Smooth. Ever since his Preston days he''s been the sort of player who''s started at a club with a bang, but then tailed off badly after a short while. Which tends to suggest an attitude problem to me, and I can''t see that being PL''s cup of tea at all.

All this looking to Europe stuff is a new tack for PL, certainly in his management career. But I''m sure, as you say that he still has some contacts in Germany. Players in the Bundesliga seem to attract less ridiculous prices than those in the Prem, so there may well be some mileage in this.

Nugent is a decent player but the problem is that Leicester are absolutely loaded so I can''t see them doing business unless ridiculous money changes hands. Which I dont think he is worth. If you were going to sign him, the time to do it was in the summer on a free transfer. That one has sailed I reckon

Kind of with Mr Pickles here with the attitude of Nugent and although he was a free transfer I am sure the £££ was good. If that is what he wants rather than working hard in a premiership team for the value of the team and personal development then we don''t need to look there.

I just think some of the fees that have been mentioned for others in that division would be on a similar par to a fee that Nugent would go for. Well I am looking forward to this Jan. Window, always believe in improvement and this is the window where we can look to improve are squad for the good of the group and our goal of staying in this division.
