NWC 315 Posted November 30, 2011 Less goals conceded too. It''s one of the main differences for me this time - PL has instigated a belief in the players that we will not get thrashed, and so far it has worked.Yes we have lost, but we have never been rolled over like against Liverpool and Arsenal last time.Could you ever see any of Lambert''s team do a "Fulham"? - No, me neither! William Darby 0 Posted November 30, 2011 Who do the more interesting threads end up slipping down the page? Oh well.Anyway I find it very interesting in as much as it''s fair to say we''re slightly better than ''04. And even if we end up with the same number of points as the 04 team achieved we''d end up with 37 which in my opinion would mean we stay up.
priceyrice 133 Posted December 1, 2011 Nice comparison, it makes it seem like we have a nice 3/4 game cushion at the moment, by that i mean we only really need one win from the next 4 games to stay on track for staying up. i would be expecting better though, we have made a great start and need to maintain it, one poor run of form can really cost you. we need to pick up as many points as possible over the next third of the season, as the final third has some very tricky games
Tetteys Jig 851 Posted December 1, 2011 Basically means we can afford 5 more losses before we next win.
NWC 315 Posted December 1, 2011 We might also have to factor in the "Dean Ashton" factor.I don''t think we will sign a player in January who made that much impact as Dean did in 2004. I imagine that we will strengthen more areas but less dynamically.
Bill 1,788 Posted December 1, 2011 "it''s fair to say we''re slightly better than ''04"Slightly better !As far as points go we are currently averaging just over 50% higher than we were in 20042004 - 0.8 points a game2011 - 1.23 points a gameGoals for2004 - 1.22 goals a game2011 - 1.46 goals gameGoals against2004 - 2.53 goals a game2011 - 1.61 goals gameSo 50% more points, 20% more goals scored and 40% less goals concededEarly days yes, but slightly better ? Power Hamster 0 Posted December 1, 2011 Look at it this way - we have just had our 4th win of the season, on the 26th of November. In 2004-5 our 4th win came at home to Man Utd, on the 9th of April.I think that statistic highlights the difference between the two seasons more than anything.[:)]
