Recommended Posts

PL W D L F A GD PT PPG GFPG GAPG

2004 15 1 9 5 14 25 -12 12 0.8 0.93 1.67

2011 13 4 4 5 19 21 -2 16 1.23 1.46 1.62

4 more points with 2 less games played

Lets hope we keep this up were on for 46-47 points at the moment that will put us close to mid table going on other prem seasons i would settle for that.

Less goals conceded too. It''s one of the main differences for me this time - PL has instigated a belief in the players that we will not get thrashed, and so far it has worked.Yes we have lost, but we have never been rolled over like against Liverpool and Arsenal last time.Could you ever see any of Lambert''s team do a "Fulham"? - No, me neither!

Who do the more interesting threads end up slipping down the page? Oh well.Anyway I find it very interesting in as much as it''s fair to say we''re slightly better than ''04.  And even if we end up with the same number of points as the 04 team achieved we''d end up with 37 which in my opinion would mean we stay up.

Nice comparison, it makes it seem like we have a nice 3/4 game cushion at the moment, by that i mean we only really need one win from the next 4 games to stay on track for staying up. i would be expecting better though, we have made a great start and need to maintain it, one poor run of form can really cost you. we need to pick up as many points as possible over the next third of the season, as the final third has some very tricky games

We might also have to factor in the "Dean Ashton" factor.

I don''t think we will sign a player in January who made that much impact as Dean did in 2004. I imagine that we will strengthen more areas but less dynamically.

Slightly better !

As far as points go we are currently averaging just over 50% higher than we were in 2004

2004 - 0.8 points a game

2011 - 1.23 points a game

Goals for

2004 - 1.22 goals a game

2011 - 1.46 goals game

Goals against

2004 - 2.53 goals a game

2011 - 1.61 goals game

So 50% more points, 20% more goals scored and 40% less goals conceded

Early days yes, but slightly better ?

Look at it this way - we have just had our 4th win of the season, on the 26th of November. In 2004-5 our 4th win came at home to Man Utd, on the 9th of April.I think that statistic highlights the difference between the two seasons more than anything.[:)]
