Yellow Rider 0 Posted January 5, 2005 He advocates sticking by the talent of Jarvis and Crowe for the next match at least (and possibly beyond) but will Worthy have the vision or the courage?I doubt it. In his 4 yeas as NCFC manager NO young player has made it through to the first team and an established place. Forget Green, his place was pencilled in long before Worthy took over.Nearly 2 years ago both Jarvis and Shackell were given debuts and hailed as ...''our future''. Ian Winter on Look East on Monday again referred to Jarvis and Crowe as ..''ones for the future''. Question - when does this ''future'' ever arrive?? I am not saying that these players should be automatic first team choices from now on and for ever but if they are deemed to be good enough they MUST be given batches of full games in the first team to prove whether they can cut it. We have not seen a goal at Carrow Road by a Norwich player as good as Jarvo''s for a long, long time but he will quickly disappear again for another 6 months in the reserves once the injuries heal up or we sign another ''striker''.Wothy''s attitude to young players is far too cautious. Shackell in particular (who is now 21) has been very unlucky last season (with injury free run and form of Flem and Malky) and this season Worthy has opted for older players like Charlton and Fleming again. The really annoying thing is that both those players have contracts (or options) for ANOTHER 2 seasons! No way will Shackell hang around for that long. He needs to be brought in now. Our friends down the road have no such qualms about blooding young players (Bent has been a first team regular for 2 years now).
LinkNR9 0 Posted January 5, 2005 Totally agree, what is there to lose. We aren''t putting the ball away up front, and IMHO the Flemster is playing poorly at the moment. Give Crow and Shackell a go.
