nutty nigel 7,532 Posted October 13, 2011 Thanks for clearing that up Hucks. I for one wish we''d kept him. In my book he ran you close for the Barry Butler in 2007. He played virtually every game that season and scored some great goals. Just was never popular with a lot of fans. When you gonna do Hucks meets Neil Doncaster so he can explain some of these things from his point of view??
PurpleCanary 5,557 Posted October 13, 2011
the club had the option to take out the clause months before Dickson went to Sunderland, they didn''t need to match any offer just offer him a fair deal,
Thank you for that, Darren. It does, though, leave open the question of whether we could afford whatever Etuhu regarded as "fair". Players and clubs tend to have rather different views! Secondly, if we had made an acceptable offer (and got rid of the clause) it is hard to imagine Etuhu not wanting - when Sunderland came in for him - to move up to the Premier League, with the extra money and the extra kudos and challenge. In practice, it would have been very hard for us to stand in his way even with the clause gone. And with Earnshaw we definitely had no choice. Anyway, quite enough from me on this subject.
