I thought he was going to Swansea, but would be pretty happy if we got him - c/b is possibly the one area where we might need someone. Perhaps Pacheco''s experiences here, together with PL/Dalglish links will do us another favour.

Sorry but if Ayala who has played 5 senior appearnces for Liverpool is around 850K then I would value Pacheco at 700K so more like 1.5 million in my book, but to be fair I would bite their hand off for both players at 3 million!

Bags of potential and help to settle both of them in coming from the same club together not to mention the Spanish link too.

It should become clearer today if there is any substance in the link. There was a bit in the EDP this morning but it was only really recycling the Hull comments and was has been said before. Does sound a good prospect though

Cracking signing for the price i''ve heard being quoted. He was the best player on the park when Hull robbed us of 3pts at Carrow Road.

He''s got the attributes you''d expect of a Spanish defender, likes to get on the ball and play from the back but also loves to head the ball and put his body on the line.

It''s one of 2 items on the Sky Sports ''Breaking News'' ticker this morning, along with Fabregas and Nasri being left out of the Arsenal squad. It only says that we''ve made a bid, nothing about talks or anything being agreed.

Would be a great signing, especially if it''s around the price Hull had accepted! Definitely has all the attributes to be a consistent Premier League defender given some time and a little more nurturing.

De Laet, Barnett, Whitbread, Ward, Ayala = looks like enough to keep us up imo

Can you think of 3 weaker defences?

I still fear, even with the Spaniard, that we will leak too many to survive.

My uncle, who''s a Derby season ticket holder, described him as "top draw" and he sounds like he''d fit in very well he, plays it out of defence, keeping the ball on the ground, always looking up. Said while he was at Derby he was their stand-out player.

Quite excited about it, maybe he''ll bring Dani with him...

Obviously not, seems that we all missed this?
Let''s just wait a few hours.  It is the Mail.  If the story hasn''t been pulled by this evening, there may be something in it!
Oh no, another anti Daily Mail poster. Just because you don''t like the Daily Mail''s politics (and its Crusade of Truth) doesn''t mean that the sports reporters get their stories wrong any more than the Mirror, the Times or the Guardian for that matter.

Bogbrush - i don''t know if you tuned in last week but it was the Daily Mail that ''broke'' the news about Grant Holt going to Leicester, only for the story to be pulled 3 hours later.

I think you''ll find he might just be referring to the ''story'' written by that Binner that the Daily Fail published, and very swiftly withdrew, claiming that we had accepted a bid of £2m from Leicester for Grant Holt.

Crudsade of Truth heh? Hmmmmm.....it''s a Crusade of something alright......

Some real competition at Centre Back now, Ward, Whitbred, Barnett, Ayala, Still think Whitbred and barnett are first choice but both recovering/injury prone. Should be solid!

"Crusade of truth"- rhetorical nonesense and a little scary.

Besides which, I''ve found that Mail readers are primarily comprived of the ''ignorant reactionary outspoken''. People who think in very narrow terms and consider their opinion as gospel. Generally loud about it, as well.

Before I get a reaction, I am an officer in the British Army, a veteran of two tours and decorated for courage under fire. I am also a pro-europe liberal, son of an immigrant, and I loves my country. COME AND GET ME!

On Ayala: Good news! I hear nothing but good things. On my count, that makes 6 centre backs, as I count Francomb.
