Likely starting line-up ?

Recommended Posts

RUDDY

MARTIN (if fit) DE LAIT BARNETT TIERNEY

FOX

BENNETT JOHNSON

HOOLAHAN

HOLT JACKSON

Subs Rudd, Whitbread, Naughton, Crofts, Smith or C Martin, Pilkington, Morison

Martin is a slight doubt, if he''s not fit Naughton will start. Likewise Crofts isn''t 100% so I''ve left him out. The only other possibility would be whether Whitbread plays instead of Barnett. However I''m only guessing and I could be totally wrong.

Agree with that, but you''ve missed out Surman, unless injured he will be on the Bench at least.

I forgot to include Surman ! He could start in place of Bennett and move Bennett to the bench in place of K Smith/C Martin.

I don''t think Surman will play on the right wing instead of Bennett, if he does play it will be on the left.

4-5-1 certainly isn''t out of the question, if we were to play that formation I would expect to see this line up:

                                      Ruddy

            R.Martin       Barnett     De Laet      Tierney

                               Fox         Johnson

                        Bennett                        Surman

                                       Hoolahan

                                           Holt

I like the look of that, but i''d rather a more positive start, we drew too many games last time we went up, would rather try and win against the wigans of this league, even if half the time we lose by gambling like this.

This is a good shout, the 4-5-1 sounds defensive but with Bennett, Surman, Wes and Holty it will be flexible enough for the swift counter attack .

To be honest it could be one of a number of different formations and personnel which is great testament to Lamberts signings this summer to go with our existing squad.

Roll on saturday, its going to be a great day and atmosphere !!

Otbc :)

i think Tierney will start instead of Naughton but they''ll all get their chance

also think Surman''s goals v Parma will mean he gets the start on the left of midfield - not sure if he''ll go for the diamond or 4-5-1 tho, could go either way

they all can see how many options we have as clearly as we the fans can and that''s got to spur them on to have a great game every game (not that playing in the PL wouldn''t do that anyway)

can''t wait!

Without Crofts and Johnson the midfield would look very lightweight to me. Fox is not a real defensive midfielder/tackler, but more of a Pirlo-style passer from deep and the 2 attacking wingers would leave us open at times. For me, Johnson or Crofts must play to make the middle more solid
