Cups next season...will we bother this season?

Just wondered if Lambert will put full strength sides out for cups this year or will he rest our main squad for league games?

I would love a good cup run but would rather we stayed up (see Birmingham City)

I know Lambert likes to and sends a team out to win but I wonder if we had, say, Everton in the cup and our next game was a league game against Blackburn, do you think he would send a full strength team or our fringe players?

Lambert has sent out a fringe team in every cup game he has managed Norwich - can''t see him changing that now.

Your right there, I just wonder if we got to the quarter finals would he start to think of trying to get a trophy

Good oppitunity to send out the likes of Rudd, Smith and Adeyemi to face some mid table championship and league 1 sides.

We''ll do better in the cup competitions next season as we have a stronger squad. The likes of Morison, Vaughan, Pilkington etc would play in the cups if not selected in the first team at that present time and would cause all sorts of problems for Championship/League 1 teams.

IMO: Go hell bent for every cup available to us:-

 

(1) It utilises the fringe players and those recovering from injury.

(2) More income is generated, especially for home games.

(3) Us supporters have more to do on a Tuesday night than watch soaps etc.

(4) And, if we progress, more exposure all-round for NCFC.

 

In sum, it''s ok for these super clubs, who have their European competitions to think about, to treat home competitions with disdain. We have nothing to do but gain from them.

 

Also, it is important for us "bigger" clubs to takes these competitions seriously for the benefit of the game as a whole. For example, Northampton''s win at Portman Road might not have been too important to the Ipswich hierarchy but it was to Northampton F.C in general and to their supporters and to their bank balance as well.  We need the Northamptons as much as we need the Chelseas.

Some might say that these two statements are a contradiction. Can''t really say we are going ''hell bent'' for it if we are using second string players. Agree that the cups are a good chance to give younger players some experience and hope the team against MK Dons represents this.

Fair enough Bethnall, but it would be impossible to play at full strength for every such cup game, should we progress.

 

Besides, we have a squad to utilise.
