Ricardo's report v MK Dons

Recommended Posts

A pleasant stroll up to CR, an attractive game and a comfortable journey into round three was Ricardo''s expectation for tonights fare. He couldn''t have been more wrong. The first quarter hour produced some decent passing from both sides but little in the way of goalmouth action. City made good progress to about the 25 yard line but every time managed to spoil the good approach with a poor final pass or cross. Dons pressured us from a couple of corners and with the quick and impressive Baldock the City reaguard was at full stretch to clear. On 21 minutes Ayala''s needless pass into no mans land found a Dons player and suddenly Chadwick was left clear on thright to slot past Rudd. Six minutes later with Drury totally out of position Chadwick set up the unmarked Baldock who crashed home an unstoppable drive. Ref Mr Heywood didn''t help matters with his inability to tell the difference between a corner and a goalkick but the true culprit for the halftime deficet was the entire City defence.Things looked better for a while as PL sent out the same side to put things right. Surman fizzed a freekick just wide and then had a dipping shot smartly turned over by Martin in the Dons goal. Little did we imagine then that this would be City''s only strike on target until Morrisons header in injury time. With City pushing forward the ball was lost and the Dons suddenly broke and after a fine flowing move of five or six passes Chadwick was left clear to beat Rudd easily. It was the best goal of the game. Seven minutes later it was all done and dusted when Surman''s poor back pass left Powell with all the time in the world to net number four.Jackson had a poor first half but livened up late on and should at least have hit the target with a shot and header that flew wide. Korey Smith had two good chances inside the box but neither effort bothered the keeper. Wilbers went closest with a right footer that clipped the side netting but that was about the sum total of anything worthwile from City. Too many sideways passes 25 yads out and very weak defending got what it deserved and no body can deny that Dons were good value for there victory against a City side who can only be described as abject in the extreme.Man of the match was me for sticking it out to the end and the best thing about the night was the fish and chips on the way home.
