Relegation Mini-League

Recommended Posts

Paul Lambert quote at the AGM "

“Arsenal were too good. .......I don’t think we are competing with them. I think we are competing with the ones around about us and the ones below us. That is our barometer – to see if we can compete with them. "

Seems like Sir Paul recognises the mini-league concept. Keep up the good work Canton, 10,000 views can''t be wrong.

There is a slight worry here we have played 4 at home in the mini league 5 after QPR Blackburn have only played 1 and Bolton 2. Also are Stoke falling into the mini league ??

This Mini league is a miff.

I would say apart from the top 6 anyone can beat anyone on there day. I don''t see Norwich, QPR, West Brom and fulham falling into this.

For me Blackburn are very average, also think wigan and wolves are worse than the above teams. All the above have goals in the team. QPR will add in Jan and I expect mid table and I think swansea will end up struggling. There home form will be the key but rumour has it there fans are star struck by the big name players from opposing teams, shocking but true. Loftus road comes top for untimadation but you have decent crowds too.

10pts Wolverhampton Wanders from 6 games (1.67)

9pts Fulham from 6 games (1.5)

9pts Swansea from 6 games (1.5)

9pts Wigan Athletic from 8 games (1.13)

6pts Sunderland from 6 games (1.00)

---

6pts Bolton Wanderers from 6 games (1.00)

4pts Blackburn Rovers from 4 games (1.00)

4pts QPR from 6 games (0.66)

AVERAGES TABLE (Average point per game against rivals)

2.20 WBA (11/5)

2.00 Norwich City from (14/7)

1.67 Wolverhampton Wanders (10/6)

1.50 Fulham (9/6)

Bolton are now the only team to be in the bottom 3 places on all 3 tables. Wigan and Blackburn are in there on 2 others, with QPR and Sunderland making 1 cameo appearance.

Fulham take a free point away to Arsenal, leading me to think that if they would get themselves knocked out of the Europa League, they probably would end up safe. Apart from this, the results today were ideal for Norwich.

Blackburn vs. Swansea

Man City vs. Norwich

"-- Everton have been removed from the table --"

Really? On what basis? Could it be that they have 16 points now...just like Norwich? No, surely not. Could it be that they have a favourable single goal difference over Norwich? No, that would be clutching at straws. Can it be that they have fewer losses than Norwich? No, can''t be that as they''ve actually lost one more game than Norwich. Well, if it''s none of those things it can only be that CantonsHero has taken a look at upcoming Everton fixtures and decided that they should get something from those games and he will appear to be ahead of the curve. Nothing to do with this silly relegation mini-league but simply Canton wanting to express his arbitrary opinion on something, the same as everyone else. That''s fair enough then, as long as we''ve got that straight.

I''ve removed them because at the beginning of the season hardly anyone who have considered them candidates to go down, but with no new players and Arteta leaving, as well as a poor start, they might have ended themselves as candidates.

However, they''re winning games against everyone; they have an average points per game against "rivals" of 2.50 beating everyone except QPR, and it became extremely evident that they were going to overcome their off-field problems.

Yes, they''re level on points with us, but apart from Wigan, we''ve had the easiest 13 games of anyone in the group, and if we make 6 more points before 2012, we''ll have done well.

I really do question your evaluation. Everton has won two games in a row against teams in the bottom four. Prior to that they had lost 5 of their last 6 matches. Compared to Norwich, for example, they have played five matches against teams in the top seven yielding zero points and a negative goal differential of eight, whereas Norwich have played four matches against teams in the top seven yielding one point and a negative goal differential of five. I would say, if anything, that reflects us in a favourable light. No, I''m afraid I''m not buying your input Canton. You''re looking ahead at their fixtures and trying to get a jump start on appearing to be ahead of the curve. Now, come on, be a big boy and admit it.

No.

I placed Everton in there because I thought that this was the year that David Moyes was finally unable to keep them kicking above their weight. Their poor start seemed to confirm this. They are historic bad starters.

Now they are up to 8th, and evidently the class that they have in some of their players and the superb manager will keep them riding high for another year.

That is the only reason. Apart from Norwich, I have no idea what their future fixtures are.

We got thumped! Oh well. Thankfully WBA and QPR shared the points, Bolton and Wigan got stuffed as well and Swansea got beat. Blackburn picked up 3 points, but it was at home to a rival and those kinda results are to be expected.

Bolton are now the only team in all three tables, with Sunderland and QPR in two, but I expect to see Sunderland''s fortunes improve pretty soon.

Norwich vs. Newcastle (Sat 10)

Swansea vs. Fulham

WBA vs. Wigan

Can anyone explain the purpose of these tables? It''s almost identical to the actual League Table and the actual League Table is the one that decides who goes down. And why are Stoke (hope they go down, Pulis hates Icelanders) not on the Relegation possible teams?

Fulham vs. Bolton

Newcastle vs. Swansea

Wolves. vs. Stoke

Wigan vs. Chelsea

Spurs vs. Sunderland

With regards to the fixtures, I can see Blackburn winning, but not so for Wigan. That means a draw with Everton will maintain that 7 point gap from the relegation zone.

Importantly, Spurs pop up on December 27. They have a 4 day rest between games, and we have 7 days. Though they may rest against Shamrock Rovers, they have 4 games in 12 days.

Of course, there''s always the possibility that we will beat Everton next week. This would leave Norwich 6 points clear of Everton. What will you do with Everton then Canton, re-insert them into your mini-league? If not, how about removing Norwich also at that point? [:D]
