Relegation Mini-League

I think there are 7 teams who will be in trouble come the end of the season. Thus there are 12 really important games for each team will really decide the season.

After Week 1 (Saturday)

TEAM RELEGATION GAMES POINTS

Wolverhampton Wanders 1/12 3

Norwich City 1/12 1

Wigan Athletic 1/12 1

WBA 0/12 0

Swansea 0/12 0

QPR 0/12 0

Blackburn Rovers 1/12 0

I''d near enough agree. Maybe one or two sides in or out of that league you put above, but on the whole I agree that there is that sort of mini league - and if you can beat those teams at home, and draw away, you''ll stay up. So very happy with the point today, considering it''s the first game as well.

I cannot see either Wolves or WBA struggling this season but would add Newcastle to the mix although they gave a good account against Arsenal. On reflection i see a very small mini league, the 3 promoted clubs, Wigan, Blackburn and possibly Newcastle

I can see Everton, Fulham and Villa all being down there personally.

I actually think Wigan, Wolves and WEst Brom will be in it but survive.

QPR, Swansea and Blackburn to go down for me.

There''s realistic and then there''s just plain daft.If we finish 17th then it will be a wonderful achievement.Saying that we wont be involved in a battle to stay up is pure madness!

Too early to tell for me.

Been away and only just back. Saw the highlights of the game.

I say it every season, and nearly every season they are around it but Wigan have to be one of the teams, they have lost N''Zogbia who was one of the main reasons they stayed up last season and haven''t replaced him.

From what I saw they probably deserved a penalty but got the wrong one, perhaps the ref knew it and didn''t give the R.Martin one as he knew the one earlier was a) outside the box, b) shoulder to shoulder and very harsh.

Thing is we can''t think about other teams at this point in time we can only focus on getting up some momentum. And getting to grips with each team as they come.

However tougher tests lay ahead starting with Stoke. We are at home but they will try to out-muscle us. That said they suffered a couple of injuries in the last game and they have a European game during the week so with any luck they may just be a bit knackered. It will be interesting to see how Holt and Morrison do against the likes of Huth.

I also managed to watch the Man City Vs Swansea game as well as highlights from the QPR game. Out of the three teams that have come up QPR simply have to be the worse.

People bang on about Warnock but I think he is a pretty one dimensional manager. They have improved the team with Campbell and Bothroyd but no where else. I will be surprised if they arn''t bottom at Christmas.

I like Swansea''s approach to football but can''t help but think how heavily they rely on some players and how they lack in both height and physical stature. At times they just got brushed off the ball.

Like I say, our next game is Stoke at home and that will be a much bigger test for us in terms of whether we can go toe-to-toe as well as outplay teams. One thing is for sure, we need to have a good home record to stand a chance. And teams like Stoke are teams we should believe we can compete with and get points off.

After Week 2 (Saturday)

4pts Newcastle United (0 rival played)

3pts QPR (0 rival played)

3pts Wolverhampton Wanders (1 rival played)

2pts Wigan Athletic (2 rival played)

1pts Norwich City (1 rival played [away])

1pts Swansea (1 rival played [home])

0pts WBA (0 rival played)

0pts Blackburn Rovers (1 rival played)

The QPR result was not good news. I think after last week, Everton doing one over on them would have kept them low and they may have struggled to pick up points for a few weeks.

I''m in two minds about the Chelsea result. It keeps WBA from having points which is a good thing, but Chelsea have now gotten off the mark, but the flip side I wouldn''t want to see Chelsea ''bouncing back''.

Important fixtures:

Norwich vs Stoke (Sun)

Wolves vs Fulham

Villa vs Wolves (Sat)

Wigan vs QPR

Blackburn vs Everton

Chelsea vs Norwich

Swansea vs Sunderland

After Week 3 (Saturday)

7pts Wolverhampton Wanders (1 rival played)

5pts Wigan Athletic (3 rivals played)

4pts Newcastle United (0 rival played)

3pts QPR (1 rival played)

2pts Norwich City (1 rival played)

2pts Swansea (1 rival played)

0pts WBA (0 rival played)

0pts Blackburn Rovers (1 rival played)

Wigan were always likely to win one of the first three games, and after QPRs unlikely win last week this will bring them back down to the ground.

Swansea still have not scored a goal which should worry their fans.

Norwich deserved at least a point today.

Blackburn look in trouble with plenty of chances to win today.

WBA vs.Stoke is a big game. Really could do with a Stoke win here.

Going to add Fulham in as well as it seems that their Europe exploits and lack of goals are going to cause a struggle. They only qualified for Europe due to the fair play league and have lost their manager since.

After Week 3 (Saturday)

7pts Newcastle United (1 rival played)

7pts Wolverhampton Wanders (2 rivals played)

5pts Wigan Athletic (3 rivals played)

3pts QPR (1 rival played)

2pts Norwich City (1 rival played)

2pts Swansea (1 rival played)

---

1pts Fulham (2 rivals played)

0pts WBA (0 rival played)

0pts Blackburn Rovers (1 rival played)

Upcoming games:

Arsenal vs. Swansea (Sep 10)

Man City vs. Wigan

Wolves vs. Tottenham

Norwich City vs. WBA (Sep 11)

Fulham vs. Blackburn

QPR vs. Newcastle (Sep 12)

Three absolutely massive games here on the Sunday and Monday. September and October will massive for WBA who have not only us, but also Swansea and Fulham before September is out and then Wolves and Villa in October, and local derbies are a crapshoot as far as form goes.

But think of it as this: In the month of August Norwich City moved 2 points away from the relegation zone to 14th place.

Think it might be worth adding Everton to this, especially if they sell Mikael Arteta today for just money. What do you think? Are Everton too good to go down?

Could selling Arteta today be the last straw for Moyes? I think Everton minus Moyes are definate relegation fodder.

At the risk of being a bore i would add Sunderland even though they got Bentner. I think they will struggle to get goals and early performances have not been good. Newcastle have got off to a flyer but they may yet struggle

Yeah I think the real bottom teams will be the three promoted teams wigan and blackburn. Altho I think qpr will be top of that list of five, I hope we are above the other 3

At the moment it''s 10 teams. The ideas of this:

1. We can see that we we''re not effectively in the real relegation zone.

2. Teams can come and go as the season progresses. There are 10 now, but if Wolves and Newcastle keep picking up points, they can be removed.

3. We can see that WBA''s position maybe false due to their fixtures and similarly Wigan.

After Week 4 (Saturday)

All the results went superbly for Norwich today. Everton being the only team in the league to pick up points and that was home to Aston Villa who are yet to set the league alight this year. Wigan, Swansea and Wolves all losing though to tough teams mean that a point tomorrow would mean Norwich were still outside the bottom 3!

7pts Newcastle United (1 rival played)

7pts Wolverhampton Wanders (2 rivals played)

5pts Wigan Athletic (3 rivals played)

4pts Everton (2 rivals played)

3pts QPR (2 rivals played)

2pts Norwich City (1 rival played)

2pts Swansea (1 rival played)

---

1pts Fulham (2 rivals played)

0pts WBA (0 rival played)

0pts Blackburn Rovers (2 rivals played)

Upcoming games:

Norwich City vs. WBA (Sep 11)

Fulham vs. Blackburn

QPR vs. Newcastle (Sep 12)

Blackburn vs Arsenal (Sep 17)

Aston Villa vs Newcastle

Bolton vs. Norwich

Everton vs. Wigan

Swansea vs. WBA

Wolves vs. QPR

WBA have an important week as their season so far has seen them play teams who all sit in the top 4; now they have away games to major rivals. QPR also have a pair of rivals in the following week.

After Week 4 (Sunday)

Really, the only bad result for Norwich this weekend, was their own. Everything else went the best way it probably could.

However, Norwich''s defeat mean that they drop in the Relegation Mini League by virtue that Swansea have only played one of the teams likely to be around us at the end of the season as opposed to Norwich''s 2 and Fulham''s 3.

7pts Newcastle United (1 rival played)

7pts Wolverhampton Wanders (2 rivals played)

5pts Wigan Athletic (3 rivals played)

4pts Everton (2 rivals played)

3pts WBA (1 rival played)

3pts QPR (2 rivals played)

2pts Swansea (1 rival played)

---

2pts Norwich City (2 rivals played)

2pts Fulham (3 rivals played)

1pts Blackburn Rovers (2 rivals played)

Upcoming games:

QPR vs. Newcastle (Sep 12)

Blackburn vs Arsenal (Sep 17)

Aston Villa vs Newcastle

Bolton vs. Norwich

Everton vs. Wigan

Swansea vs. WBA

Wolves vs. QPR

Fulham vs. Man City (Sep 18)

With the teams immediately beneath us playing Man City and Arsenal it is important we bounce back. Remember, Norwich have never lost three in a row under Lambert.

After Week 4

Another good result for Norwich''s safety tonight. Probably would have been better to see Newcastle win, but QPR remaining goalless shows that all three promoted teams are struggling to score. Swansea (0), QPR (1) and us (3).

8pts Newcastle United (2 rival played)

7pts Wolverhampton Wanders (2 rivals played)

5pts Wigan Athletic (3 rivals played)

4pts Everton (2 rivals played)

4pts QPR (3 rivals played)

3pts WBA (1 rival played)

2pts Swansea (1 rival played)

---

2pts Norwich City (2 rivals played)

2pts Fulham (3 rivals played)

1pts Blackburn Rovers (2 rivals played)

Upcoming games:

QPR vs. Newcastle (Sep 12)

Blackburn vs Arsenal (Sep 17)

Aston Villa vs Newcastle

Bolton vs. Norwich

Everton vs. Wigan

Swansea vs. WBA

Wolves vs. QPR

Fulham vs. Man City (Sep 18)
