Night out in Wigan ?

Recommended Posts

Me and my mates are going to Wigan and are thinking of staying up there and having a night on the beer. Does anyone know if it is good place to go or should we move on to Manchester for the evening?

i don`t really know wigan that well, but manchester is a much better bet. tons of bars restaurants pubs etc. you`ll have a good night there. probably not advisable to wear any `colours` but i doubt you`d do that on a night out anyway!!.

For a Lads night I would suggest going over to Blackpool, bigger choice of Hotels and Guest Houses and more bars and clubs in a smaller area than Manchester, also has the Pleasure Beach and normally loads of Hen nights.

There may be tons of bars and pubs, but i''ve heard it said, on good authority, that there''s only 2 restaurants in Manchester... ;-)

Do not go out in Wigan. Me and mates are going to the game and staying in Manchester for night out there. Something for everyone! £8 return train ticket from Manchester to Wigan.

blackpool is ok but a bit, no... a lot `tacky`. it depends on what you want, and also how you`re travelling. if you are going by train, i don`t know if you can get direct to blackpool from wigan, you may end up having to go back to manchester victoria anyway. the train from wigan to manchester will only take about 15 minutes i`d imagine.

You can get direct trains to Blackpool - about the same distance an Manchester. You will get a cheaper, but rougher, night in Blackpool. Far more choice, and style, in Manc. It just depends what you want.ND

A mate and I are staying in Wigan the night.

Might be more of a night going to Manchester or Liverpool, but make the most of it; have a curry and a few beers should be a laugh!

Hey,

I live in Manchester and for the past 4 months have worked in Wigan. Although I''ve only been out in Wigan once, it was a good night but its similar to Norwich in the way that most bars and clubs are on one street (think its King Street) Prince of Wales road-esq.

All I can really say is that Manchester has way more choice and is a lot more upmarket, but if you''re happy with just drinking in pubs, Wigan is a lot cheaper. There''s generally good banter in Wigan too, but colleagues tell me it has its dodgy areas (as with most places)

We have 2 chances to go out in Manchester this year so we are going to make the most of the Wigan night life... cheaper and easier. Also, get on lastminute.com - rooms are still pretty cheap!

I think you''ll find that rooms are ALWAYS cheap in Wigan. My mate is from there and when they opened a new hotel he joked, "who the f*** wants to stay in Wigan!".

It''s rough as - so watch your backs! If your accents stand out you may just become targeted. I''m 6''2" and 17 stone and I''d be keeping a keen eye out for peotential if I was out in Wigan.

I grew up in Wigan and I''ve now lived in Manchester for 3 years. I''d recommend Manchester, Wigan is chavvy and full of stupid people. It''s a prime example of social darwinsim: all the attractive/intelligent people leave and the ugly retards are left to breed. A return train ticket to Manchester will cost you £4 at the most and there''s much better places and people in Manchester. As for Blackpool, rough as hell, and tacky, and the train from Wigan takes an age. Hope this helps.

Be honest - is Wigan really that bad?

Have booked a hotel there for the night and now maybe regretting the decision...lol! You say Manchester on train is only £4; might have to see how the day pans out!

Your hoel shoudl be fine Pabs - it''s just the night out after. It''s a very insular area and so no-one from outside Wigan would go for a night out there. Most in Wigan would go on the train to Manchester or Liverpool etc for a big night out. That tells you something. Some areas even the stray dogs walk around in pairs.
