Are we still playing football this season?

Is the prem still a football league? or are we playing a new game?

From many of the posts on here one would think we were entering a baseball league ! It`s not a different game, only the same one played at a higher level !!

Put simply, we are playing 11 v 11 at football. The opposition may be a little more talented than we have been up against over the last couple of seasons but the game, the rules, the officials  pitches and supporters are all going to be similar.

There is no reason why well organised teams like ours with a top work ethic and a sprinkling of individual talent and team tactics cannot hold their own.

Some of the sending offs I saw last year in the Prem looked ridiculous.  If you don''t watch out, you end up not playing 11 v 11 !

It''s more than "a little more talented".

Although it is ostensibly the same game, the way it is played is pretty different. The speed in the Premier League is quicker, with every player given less time to make a decision, and if the wrong decision is made it is punished harder. Players will need to speed up, and won''t be afforded the luxury of taking several touches of the ball, or being able to miss place a pass. Things that aren''t regarded as mistakes in the Championship will result in conceeding a goal scoring chance, experience of playing in the Premier League means the player being more aware of what the oppenent is capable of as well.

In the Championship defenders can generally get away with punting the ball down field to clear danger, this is no good in the Premier League. Also in the Championship you can often rely of the opposition defence to make mistakes offering you a chance or two throughout the game (look at both the Norwich v Ipswich games, are best chances were created by Ipswich defenders making mistakes). These mistakes won''t happen as often in the Premier League. There are also many other little things, like possession being harder to win and retain, increased pressure due to massive media interest etc etc.

It is the same game, but in the way the I play the same game when having a kick about with freinds in a park.

Birmingham had a well organised team with a top work ethic - did them no good. As it hasn''t done many other teams in the past.
